I was just wondering if paralyzing serum worked on bodyguards? The rules say bodtguards are immune to spies "assassination" ability. The cards states that the bodyguard is assassinated. So does the card allow the spy to assassinate twice with his normal ability or once with his normal ability and once with a "serum" attack?

I don't remember the precide wording of the serum card. The important question is whether the card lets you assassinate a representative (in which case bodyguards are immune) or lets you kill a representative (in which case they are not).

The card says "assassinate" and would work the same way as a spy's ability. A bodyguard may still be targeted, but will not be killed.

The Action Card is not a Spy.

Are bodyguards immune to only spies or to spies and Action Cards?
Action Cards can and do break the rules many times and bodyguards are immune to spy abilities but not Action Cards.

Bodyguards are immune to the being assassinated (the rules say "Bodyguards cannot be assassinated"). They are not immune to spies who do have effects other than Assassinate, but they are immune to cards that use that term.

For instance, the Creuss spy can be used against a bodyguard and have that bodyguards printed abilities be ignored (although the Assassination immunity still holds, as that's not a printed ability, but just a general rule regarding bodyguards).

i got this answer from ffg:
Bodyguards are only immune to assassinations. If an effect does not use the word "assassinate", it can kill the bodyguard.

question:
Dear ffg i was wondering wich effects and representetives can kill a bodyguard?

Thanks for your guidance everyone. Muchly appreciated. So if any has a list of the effects that kill bodyguards I would like to see it as currently the only way (that I know of) to kill a bodyguard is to use the Yin spy's ability. So in a way this doesn't make sense because a) what if yin isn't in the game? I mean you could have a group of players who don't own shattered empire. B) it does say that bodyguards are imune to assassination but there is no clear ruling (from ffg) that all action cards have been properly written.

I agree with the poster that says (paraphrasing) "bodyguards are imume to assassination, period," that paralyzing serum does say "assassination." So I guess this again leads me back to the questio, "how do you kill a bodyguard?"

Thoughts?

Then bodyguards are harder, or impossible, to kill.

Is that a problem?

I mean, I have heard a lot of people raise the issue that the possibility of killing all of a players representatives is bad for the game. I think you may be the first to present the opposite as an issue.

Ways to Kill A Bodyguard
A Short Essay - By Sigmazero13
Read by Morgan Freeman

Most of the ways involve Bodyguards who are also spies. This includes the following representatives: "Elder Gurno" Saar, "Alrung" Hacan, and "Rev. Hendrickson" Sol.

The Bodyguard/Spies can be killed by the following (usually as a retaliative act):

* "Counter" Action Card
* "On Observation" Political Card
* "Orid Gim" Mentak Bodyguard
* "Qui'Rek" N'orr Bodyguard
* "Cador Gim" Mentak Spy

There is one Bodyguard/Councilor - "Yaluga Huin" Jol-Nar - but he is immune from being killed (because that's his ability). Although he COULD be killed if the Creuss "Soo Leirah" targeted him; the L1Z1X Spy "A6AH3" could then kill him, as could "Beelzebul", the Nekro Councilor. Note that he would still be immune to "assassination" though

The Yin Spy "Imar Yissadar" assassinates a representative, but has a special rule that he will kill a Bodyguard if targeted (but in the process will die himself).

Finally, the N'orr Spy "Redband R't'an" can kill ANY representative if the conditions are met, including a Bodyguard.

Thus, in general, Bodyguards are not going to die easily, but it is possible to kill them off!

EDIT: Added the possibility to kill Yaluga Huin

Is the spy targeting the representative when using paralyzing serum? And if not, can the action card be used to bypass retaliative effects?

Re: does paralyzing serum work on bodyguards?
No. While a spy must be played to use the card, the card itself is independent. Thus, using it to target another representative will not trigger any effects that say "if targeted by a spy".
