Our local gaming group, WABA, has an annual gathering which we call Decembacon, and one of our local gaming stores got special permission to run the promotional event early at the meet. To ensure he got enough numbers the store owner made it a simplified rules tournament of single base game competition with 1-loss elimination. 1 Rookie Pilot X-wing with Proton Torpedoes vs 2 TIE Fighters (1 Academy Pilot and 1 Obsidian Squadron Pilot). We had 16 players and each round players had to switch sides, although I'm not sure what sides the victors were in the first round and if anyone got to be the same side two rounds in a row. Very interesting format for sure, it also made sure the rounds went quickly too.

Its interesting that the heavy lazers are a 7 point upgrade for +1 dice at range 2-3 over the standard guns, can only be fired in the front/rear arc, and you have to change all crit hits to normal hits. seems a bit pricey for the "advantage".

I suppose it would be helpful for stripping shields while you close with the enemy but is it worth 7 points especially since it won't ever do critical damage ever.

It feels more like it should be a 5 point upgrade comparable to the ion cannon for y-wings.

Because it's a secondary weapon, range modifiers don't apply. So in comparison to the Firespray's primary weapon attack, at Range 3 it's +1 attack die and -1 defense dice.

Or think of it another way: torpedoes and concussion missiles are both 4-point upgrades that give you the ability to roll 4 dice at Range 3. They require a target lock, and they have to be discarded after use. This has the same likelihood to hit, and you can use it as often as you want.

EDIT: Oh, and if you have a Mercenary Copilot, I believe you deal a critical hit regardless.

Where does it say anything about the front/rear arc? Is this still speculation or do we have confirmation somewhere?

Expose on Luke also sounds good since he has the free focus on evades.

Its a different Ion Cannon--not a turret. But yes, it has further range.

But it lacks the "even outside your fireing arc" that the other ion cannon has. That's probably why it is 2 points cheaper despite the increased range.

Does Mithel have an upgrade icon? I can't remember right now.
edit : yes he does. In that case you might want to put a shield upgrade on him too to make him last more than one round.

I think Expose would be great on Wedge when you have Biggs next to him.

I assume it has to do with the bombs. There must be a card or something in the Slave I rules folder that defines "drop". Since the bombs have range nubs, my guess is that dropping a bomb means putting a range 1 ruler somewhere along the dotted arc and then putting the bomb at the other end.

Yes, Mauler and Howlrunner are the only two named TIEs with elite pilot skills. Otherwise I think it would be even better on Backstabber, since his advantage triggers when he is outside the enemy's firing arc, so you know he won't get shot at anyway.

My guess would be that once move your ship to the opposite end of the maneuver template, you DROP the bomb on the near end of the template, using the nubs to locate it.

Has far as the Front/Rear Arc, if you look at the attack number for the firespray, it has arrows pointing front and back, and if you look at the ship base, it also shows firing arcs front and back.

Look at the attack value obser the cards. See the different icon indicating front and rear attack similar to the altered icon for 360 firing on the falcon.
I think that primary weapons and cannons will fire in front and rear arcs but missiles only in front. And bombs have a new method of deployment.
I would be grateful for the OP to post the DROP rules for bombs that would be cool.

Both the Gunner and Luke Skywalker have the same last sentence, "You cannot perform another attack this round." What is the need for this sentence? Doesn't this imply that both the Falcon and Slave-1 can normally attack twice in a turn?

It implies you can't keep repeating their effect. So you can't miss attack, use Luke, miss Luke's attack, and then try and use Luke's attack again, and so on.

My thoughts exactly. It will really help the "Elite Rebel" build against TIE swarms, since it will take awhile (in theory) for two attack dice to hit 4 Agility dice.

Of course, against Interceptors, they're likely to hit a 4 Agility target much quicker, so we'll have to see what the meta game looks like.

Man, I really wish there were 2 copies of Expose in there. I plan on getting 2 copies of Slave 1 (Especially seeing Stealth Device. A TIE Swarm that pretty much can't be alpha-striked? Yes please), but I'd really like 4 of those.

Shields would also count since you were hit by the weapon.
