On this episode of Board Games with Scott, I take a look at the French simultaneous puzzle game, Du Balai.

Note - This is presented a week early as I'm off to Essen soon. The next episode will be posted in three weeks, on Nov. 3rd.

Scott you truely are one of the creative geniuses on the internet for sure. I haven't seen this video yet just saw the intro and it had me cracking up pretty hard. Every intro you do you just jump right in and go all out, costumes, one-liners, etc. Totally hilarious.

BTW, this game was mentioned on the tail end of the 'netcast' ..errr podcast of roundtable...Aldie mentioned it. For those in the U.S. most likely have to purchase it from Canadian retailer www.levalet.com

Heheh - if I don't have fun making these, then it's not worth it.

My inspiration is Alton Brown and his Good Eats show, where he has wacky intros, skits, characters, and things like that. That's my model.

After watching the video it seems like it's Jungle Speed on steroids.

Great review, Scott. I've been looking forward to readinf a good review about this game. Being able to watch one is even beter. One thing which wasn't addressed in detail was the use of magical cards. I've read the translations here at BGG and used the little French I know to figure out when to use the magic cards and I am still not so sure about it.

Does anybody know how you use them? Do you use them in the movement phase? If so, do use it immediately upon receiving them or save them for a later turn? If so, how many can you use at a time?

The rule translations that I have are pretty loose about them. They are simple effects, and it's always been clear in our games when you play it. Play it when appropriate.

(as an aside.. you usually don't get many of them in the whole game.)

beautiful work, as always.
the furry of dracula is still my favorite intro, cracks me up even thinking about it!
a disappointment though, the show is not going weekly after all.

anyways, much appreciated! I find that I buy 8 of 10 of the games you show!
cheers.

I've decided to focus on quality over quantity. As a professor in the real world, my time is tight. So, I'll put out shows in the timeframe that lets me do a good job, doing all of the editing and post-production work that makes the shows an effective use of the viewer's time.

I'd prefer to produce one high-quality episode instead of two (or three, or four) lower-quality shows.

Nice video. The game looks neat.

For your information:

Balai = broom. Du Balai! is an expression meaning "fait de l'air" (make some air). Basically, it means "get the hell out of here". I don't know what that has to do with the game however.

By the way, "du balai" rhymes with "le valet". And "du" is "dũ" not "do". :)

I know, I'm not asking for a weekly show. If it magically happened though, I wouldnt decline. I also wish matrix 2 and 3 werent as crap, but thats not the way it is. :shake:

Excellent presentation Scott. My only frustration is that you presented a game not yet available in the US.
Now i'm drooling and can't do anything about it. :soblue:
