Today, I was on the local live PBS show "HourCNY" again (4th visit). This will be my last visit on this show, as I've learned it's going off the air. That's too bad, as HourCNY was the inspiration that got me started with Board Games with Scott.

During this segment, they wanted me to focus on games that could be bought locally, so I talked about Hey, That's My Fish!, Monsters Menace America, Vegas Showdown, and Dutch Blitz (a local version of Ligretto).

Great job as usual! thumbsup

-That phone call was kind of random, but it was from Ithaca! That's where I'm originally from... so you can see this live in Ithaca too? Do you know the channel, I wonder if it's the same. Come to think of it, I'll be back visiting Ithaca from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2, any chance your club is meeting some time in there, perhaps I could make the drive. The only Tuesday in there is December 26th, so not sure if the club would meet then or not.

-There was a fair bit of cheating in that last game laugh

-Too bad they started it all off talking about Monopoly, but I liked your final comment about Monopoly. You must have been saving that up for the whole 13 minutes, heh.

This is really a loss. Casual video/podcast viewers like myself who don't have the time to follow any regularly did find time to watch these when they happened because they were so infrequent (and as short as they were). Other then year end recaps I don't know if there is anything else out there to fill the casual niche.

Well, with the way BGG has responded with that Yahoo's The 9 voting thing and with Chad's T-shirt voting thing, perhaps a letter writing campaign with 100,000 letters from BGG users could get them to keep HourCNY on the air, or perhaps just turn it into an all-boardgames, all-the-time show

It would be on the PBS station, I imagine, whatever that is.

Yes, the phone call was random, and I had no idea it was coming - they just jumped in in the middle of my talk. I suspect it was prerecorded, as there wasn't any interaction with the caller. I knew the game was "Twixt", and I said it, but it didn't seem there was any place for the caller to actually talk with me.

I wouldn't say "cheating" - I would say "confusion". One of the players didn't get the rules, so he..er.. "the player" was just doing his best to kept the segment going.

You did a great job again Scott. How did you find the difference between teaching non-gamers on (live?) TV and teaching family & friends (where you can use a big stick when they get things wrong)?

Yes, it was live TV, and Live TV with no rehearsal or chance to explain the game ahead of time.

The big difference is that when you are on Live TV, you must keep things going. You don't stop the game because someone doesn't get it - you just adjust as needed and keep the flow of the game going. As you won't finish the game on live TV, you just need to make it look like everything is fine. So, you just let misplayed cards lie as long as it's not too obvious (but when a yellow card goes on a green card pile, that's pretty obvious...).

"May your Monopoly game gather dust." Good tag line, Scott. And an excellent job, as usual. The female host always gets into the games you show and that's fun to watch.

Aye I'm so glad I discovered your website recently. It's a shame that show got canceled, but at least we still have your online episodes to look forward to. Keep up the great work Scott!

I don't live in HourCNY's viewing area, but I will miss your segments. All the episodes of your video podcast are good, but I especially enjoy watching you introduce the game to someone in the studio with you.

Scott,

Great job again.

Just out of curiosity, did anyone tell you why they were canceling the program?

Great job with this series as usual Scott! These segments just make me feel good about life- I always end them with a goofy smile on my face. It does astound me, though, about how well you were explaining and how little they were understanding (especially with Hey! That's My Fish!). That phone call from Ithaca was bizarre... I'm a speech pathologist and I still didn't understand most of what he was "saying".

What a neat show.
