This is the $50 for Child's Play as part of the con fee, right? Need to see if I can pool that much cash for a spot because I would love to do this.

Chris, right place, wrong convention. Ravenwood's charity convention is Hoop & Stick (formerly RavenCon). That's the one that includes a Child's Play donation right in the ticket price. The next Hoop & Stick is in February/March 2014, although if you're interested in joining us onsite you'll want to hurry, there's only four rooms left.

Con in the Castle is a straight up gaming convention. It's not officially connected to our Child's Play fundraising efforts. We just ended up with so much interest in the gaming conventions that one convention a year wasn't enough!

We'd love to have you join us at either convention. If you have any questions, just let me know.

Unlike our other convention, Hoop & Stick Con, which is scheduled deep in the Ohio winter, Con in the Castle falls in the peak outdoor activity season. Which means attendees can take advantage of the wonderful outdoor activities in Hocking Hills, Ohio.

So in addition to the gaming goodness to be found at Con in the Castle, we will be arranging group excursions for those who would like to get out and see some nature!

While details are still being arranged, these outings may include:

Zip Lines & Canopy Tours
Adventure Hiking
Horseback Riding
Canoeing

Additional fees may apply for excursions. Details will be provided as soon as they are available.

We’re thrilled to announce that Rob Daviau, President of Ironwall Games, will be joining us at Con in the Castle as our guest of honor!

Rob has designed numerous games, most recently the critically acclaimed Risk Legacy. He is currently working on another Legacy style game, to be published by our friends at Plaid Hat Games.

Rob will be demoing some of his games at the convention, and has also hinted that he may put together a classic D&D adventure just for us!

We hadn't considered a Heroscape tournament to be honest. But we're still working with Rob to setup a number of different events and activities, so I'll discuss it with him. Thanks for the suggestion.

Rob has confirmed that he is creating a custom 1st Edition AD&D adventure just for the convention. Even better, it's to be set in Ravenwood Castle.

Playing through an adventure set in a castle while sitting in that very castle? Yes, please!

Just a quick update. We've entirely redone our website, and now Con in the Castle has it's own page.

Check it out at www.ravenwoodcastle.com/coninthecastle/

Oh, and in other news, did I mention that the Summoner Wars tournament is going to be run by none other than Colby Dauch from Plaid Hat Games himself?

I'm not sure if anyone has posted anything yet, but by chance is there going to be a math trade? I've only participated in one before and I'd love to do it again.

There's no math trade on the agenda at this point. We'll definitely take it into consideration, but I'm not sure we'll get it set up for this year being so close to the event.

We have just announced a special though, for anyone who went to GenCon and wants to add a few more days to their convention experience. Book one of the remaining rooms for Con in the Castle, bring your GenCon 2013 badge and get 50% off your Con in the Castle ticket!

So maybe I'm a little overzealous, but I'm excited to attend the upcoming con, and I was curious about a few things:

I gather that last year participants brought some of their own games as well as playing games from the castle library, and I thought of doing that as well. Is there any way to establish a list of games that people are interested in playing (or is there no need for that)? Also, are there established gaming groups that attend, or is this more a collection of individuals?

In regards to the Pathfinder sessions, I have very little experience with RPG's, but I'm interested in trying some out. Will there be multiple sessions at once, in case you have a large number of people interested? Is there a way to sign up for certain events?

Lastly, concerning the Summoner Wars tournament, is there a specific format? I was planning on bringing a deck or two for the tournament, so I'd love to build it with the tournament in mind.

I'm sure I'll have more questions between now and then. My family and I stayed in the castle for a couple of days before heading to Gen Con, and we had a great time. I'm looking forward to visiting again next month.

Glad to see you're excited Keith! We look forward to seeing you again in a few weeks!

Some guests do indeed bring their own games to play with the other attendees. You're welcome to do so, but please don't feel that it's necessary by any means. In addition to the library on site, Rob Daviau will be bringing several of his prototypes to play, and Colby is joining us as well and may bring a prototype or two too (don't quote me on that one!)

We've had both a collection of individuals and some small groups attend. The nice thing about our cons is that due to the intimate size, by the end of the first day or so all of the attendees know each other. By the end of the con, we're all one big happy gaming group

We'll have quite a few RPG sessions going. We try not to overlap them time wise for the most part, but don't worry, you shouldn't have any problem getting into a session. And we can always add more if need be, we did that for RavenCon and it worked quite well. We will set out sign up sheets Thursday evening, and use those as a gauge for whether we need to add more sessions.

I don't know whether Colby has a specific format in mind for the Summoner Wars tournament. I believe last time some folks had their own decks and some used decks we provided. We're pretty flexible with that too!

Look forward to seeing you in a few weeks, and if you have any other questions drop them here or shoot me a quick email at jim AT ravenwoodcastle.com!
