Heh, sounds like the Game Salute booth will be pretty big, I know at least two volunteers on that stall.

I've got the official app which has a general list and so far the only boardgame exhibitors I recognise are
* Good Games (CCG and Board game stores)
* Games Laboratory (CCG and Board game stores)

Puzzlingly, I can't see Game Salute on the list.

"Wizards of the Coast" (Magic the Gathering) are the major sponsor of the Tabletop section, so there's bound to be lots of MtG players and I'd expect some stall from them, but they're not on the list either. (I guess Good Games and Games Lab do a lot of MtG trade)

There might be some others that specialise in RPG, CCG or miniatures, but I'm not so familiar with them.

Milsims and Mind Games have apparently had a million people asking them, but they're not going.

Milsims don't need to go. The stall prices are ridiculous and people are going to drive to them anyway.

We'll be added to the app during the next update, I believe it will be next Friday.

We'll have around 5-6 people at one time in the high visibility baby blue t-shirts. surprise Our booth itself won't be huge but we'll also have our own demo area next door, off the main tabletop area near the game library, so that will be fun.

Yep, the stand prices were very high, as was shipping out the games, so I'm pretty proud of Dan Yarrington making the call to exhibit and help represent tabletop gaming, it's definitely not a money making enterprise for us. We will have some stock there at con prices if anyone wants to pick up one of our titles (we'll have a fair range of titles, but not everything on our website).

Hope to talk and/or play some games with you!

I know I will be driving there at some point. Unfortunately they are closed on Sundays. Hopefully they get back to me saying they will be extending trading hours through to Sunday. Otherwise, it'll be Saturday afternoon at some point (before heading to the Mana Bardevil)

Of course - Joe Dodgy's Dice and Games will be open for pickups on the Sunday. (I'm just saying....)

Hell - if we thought we could get away with it we'd park a white van in the car park and live up to our name!

Regards,

Mitch.

The first PAX East in the US was in a smaller convention center than the current one and had some space/organization issues. That being said, I had a hell of a good time there with my friends. The American PAX is a pretty chill convention and they've REALLY worked the bugs out since the first PAX East. I haven't read Penny Arcade in years but I still look forward to going every year.

Hope you guys in Australia have an awesome time.

Sadly we are only going to be there on Saturday - if anyone would like to have a game, send me a GM and I will give you my cellphone number.

I am really looking forward to the event though, everyone I know who has been to any of the PAX in the US says they are an absolute blast! (and hopefully much better organised than Oz Comic-con was last year)

I'd like to extend an invite to any independent game publishers or designers to come and have a chat at the Game Salute stand at the show. It would be great to see or hear about what people are designing or selling. Happy for drop ins or if you want to make an appointment to spend half an hour talking about your games, you can email me dann@gamesalute.com

Hope to see you there.

Thanks for posting about the Indie Board Games panel, Rainbow Snake! Here's some more details:

The panel is on Saturday, 6:30pm in the Skippy Theatre (upstairs above the PC area). Myself, Wesley Lamont (RAEZ), Sean Carroll (93 Made Games) and Alex and Paul (Blue Room Games) are going to be talking about our experiences making and publishing our own games, and hopefully provide some inspiration and motivation for others to do the same!

We're also going to be heading to the Tabletop area straight after to play a few rounds of our games and current prototypes with people interested in trying some local games.

Hope to see some more BGGs there, so come and say hi. :D

Gamers@Dockers has actually relocated (temporarily or otherwise) to Good Games at 365 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.

The positive for PAX Aus is that Good Games can accommodate more people than the old building.

Gamers@Dockers will be running this Thursday. For further details check out http://www.melbournegamers.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1503&sid=...

There are a few Gamers@Dockers regulars who made it up to BorderCon (i was one of them), and I think there are a few of us volunteering for duties at PAX Aus as well.

Mostly offline, but trying.

Hi all,

Thanks Chris for posting the events summary.

We are running five tournaments at PAX Aus. They're the fun kind, not the deadly-earnest kind. As well as one-off X-Wing and Robo Rally tournaments, there are multi-session tournaments for Dominion, Agricola and Puerto Rico. Each of these is a knock-out format with a qualifier, a semi-final and a final. If you want to play in one, you need to be available for a qualifier and the final - not for all four qualifiers.

BEST OF ALL, though, we are running a freeplay area with a HUGE game library. I've been chasing up publishers, vendors and pretty much anyone I have ever spoken to, and we will have over 300 games in the library to appeal to all kinds of gamer. Unless you only like Monopoly. We don't have that.

MASSIVE THANKS to LXG in Queensland, CGS in Canberra, and Eurogamesfest in Melbourne, who have lent us games from their libraries.

And other MASSIVE THANKS to these companies who have donated games to help us build our OWN library:
Asmadi Games
Days of Wonder
Fantasy Flight Games
Game Salute
Good Games
Looney Labs
Mattel
MilSims Melbourne
North Star Games
Plaid Hat Games
Treefrog (Martin Wallace)
Wattsalpoag

And of course you can play other games when we have scheduled an event. I organised those to make sure that everyone who REALLY REALLY REALLY DESPERATELY wants to play one of those games will find someone to play with. And because I like the idea of having all ten copies of Small World in play at once.

Speaking of.

On Friday at 1:45pm, I have scheduled an unofficial boardgamer meet-up. So if you aren't sure who these people are, and want to meet potential future game buddies, come along and say hi.

I'm on shift Friday and Saturday nights from 6pm and Sunday afternoon from around 2, so stop by and say hello.

And as Anthony said - I'm really thrilled that the Indy game designers will be bringing their games over to TableTop after their panel. Go to the panel! Come back to Tabletop! Play Indy games! Play Party Games! Have fun!

OK Warren, just for you, will personally loan my copy of Monopoly for PAX Aus knowing that will mean it will be bar coded in perpetuity for the privilege in making you so happy. I do this on the proviso that you can organise Mouse Trap so that we can officially degrade the class of offerings.

No idea what the PAX meet and greet is (maybe i didnt get an invite).
Anyway Good Games has an unofficial closing time as it depends on what time whoever is working there decides to go home. Its normally about 11-11:30.
Feel free to bring along any games you want. There is "usually" something lightish available, but I'll pack a few extra in case.

I imagine you would understand if I reserved the limited space in my luggage for carrying games on the return trip home.

But, if you can secure a copy for the library at a reasonable price, then I would bear responsibility for meeting the cost.

I do this on the proviso that you play it with me.
