Time for Board Games with Scott!

For this episode, I'm talking about Lifeboats, the remake of Rette Sich Wer Kann. This is one of my favorite games.

You can enjoy this 15 minute episode over at

Thanks Scott, fun video and great review. This looks a game my group would like. Do you think it's too repetitive? Would you classify this as a filler level type game, if so is an hour too long for that type of game?

I find it's more satisfying than a filler, and I haven't found it to be repetitive. I think the reason behind that is that you are fighting for your life in at least two of the three votes every time, and the game really starts to collapse about 2/3rds of the way through. You see, once boats make it/go down, the remaining boats really start to get leaky fast and the last few boats rarely make it in, so it's kind of fun chaos right about the time the game starts to wind up.

If that sounds fun, that is..

I've had Lifeboats for a month now but haven't gotten a chance to play it. It was nice to see your video.

This was the first video in the series I've taken the time to watch (I'm not really a video-on-the-computer guy). I liked it so much, though, I also watched BattleLore, Blue Moon City, and Die Macher. There are at least 5 or 6 more I'd like to watch this weekend. Thanks for creating these!

Definitely play the talking stick variant next time. Played it with 3 and it doesn't work at all. Should be a 4-6 player game. Excellent review Scott thanks for the hard work putting it together.

Negotiation game...I went into the review thinking I wouldn't like negotiation games. I've read enough about Diplomacy that the constant lies and backstabbing wouldn't be fun for me at all.

But damned if this game doesn't look fun. I like that the situation changes constantly so the changing alliances would make sense and wouldn't just feel like people were picking on you. One thing I don't like about negotiation games is that they pretty much boil down to a popularity contest. With this though, I get the feeling that even if the group decided to arbitrarily "pick on" someone in particular that the picked on person would still have at least something to say about it through clever play and use of the cards. Also, the other players would have to make plays that wouldn't be in their own best interests to continue the bashing. The stick thing sounds fun too.

So...pretty interesting :)

Thanks for the video, Scott. Well done. I have been thinking about getting this game for while but held off.
It looks like a lot of fun and will now go on my "to get" list.
Cheers

We played this last night with 6 and I can't remember the last time there was so much energy around the table - It's an alternative to werewolf when you don't have enough people.
A wonderful game (but only with the right group, I'm guessing)

Oh, and thx for the video Scott

I don't know if this game would be popular with my gaming group, but your video is excellent as always, Scott. The intro is hilarious and the outtakes are always a nice touch. Great job!

Did you switch to contact lenses? ;)

I was trying to look dishelved after being tossed off the boat in the last episode. Because of the green screen effect, it cut off my flyaway hair and beard, and the dirt I rubbed all over my shirt didn't show at all.

Guess it didn't work. Oh well, that's why I focus on the review with the wackiness on the side.
