Shill alert!!

Welcome to a completely biased episode of Board Games with Scott! After many months of waiting, Tulipmania 1637 finally made it through the publication process. It's working its way through the distribution channels now, and should be in the US in Sept. 2009.

Nice job as usual. We'll have to get it on the table this week and see how it plays in its fully produced form.

By the way, clearly, you got the episode number wrong. This should be BGWS episode 1637 :D

That was a fun video to watch - on the other hand, your videos are always fun. :)

I've been looking forward to picking this up for a while, so it's good to hear that it'll be out soon. Hopefully we'll see this on a few tables at BGG.con! ;)

Great line: "Mooooooooooooon!"

This is what I was waiting for. I wanted to see you demo your own game - and now that I have, it's jumped to the top of my wishlist!

Great job, as always!

Great video Scott! The Moon intro was hilarious. After seeing the video I'm going to pass, and I wanted to thank you for your honest description of who would like and not like the game. Love your videos even if I don't like the games.

Let me also say, I hope this is the start of a trend of game designers posting videos where they show their game and give some first-hand background and commentary of the game (reminds me of DVD commentary in a way). That would be cool.

Not all designers have the presentation skills (including video entertainment skills) that Scott has. If you check out some of his earlier videos where he interviewed various designers, you'll see it's a bit of a mixed bag with introverts and extroverts.

Oh, I absolutely agree. Scott has some amazing skills there.

However, I've seen some very poorly produced DVD commentaries or behind-the-scenes type stuff that I've quite enjoyed.

Great overview, thanks. I've tried the game once on JKLM Interactive, and now I need to try it again. The 2-D wraparound stock price board is very clever!

Great video Scott.

Was lovely to hear the back story of both the historical events and the game creation process. And as many have already commented, the intro had me in stitches.

The game itself looks very interesting, although I'm probably one of those gamers who it's not aimed towards. I can't even get into basic bluffing games as I'm rarely subtle in my strategies. However, it looks like those who enjoy manipulating the other players, it'll hit the spot perfectly.

Plus... TULIPEEPLES!

Yay for you getting a copy of YOUR GAME!
I totally expected the disclaimer (I, and I imagine most others know you are the designer), but still nice to have it.

Tulipeeples? Tuleeples? Teeples? I think I like Tuleeples, or just plain Tulips, the best. Which of course means they'll be called something else entirely.

Tulipeeples sounds more XTREEM! At least it has more syllabeeples.

I was leaning more to Tulimeeples. Has a better ring to it (not that Tulips nor Meeples ring and not that there's anything wrong with that).

It does go better with the whole animeeples and vegimeeples trend.

The game looks interesting to me.
But, what a worse quality. Not almost similar colors of the cards, but it is also very bad to make the difference between the red and orange pac man ghosts. A shame to JKLM. A pity for you Scott.

With the "16XX" in the title are we looking at the start of a new series?

That was something the publisher put into the title, to give it a little more seriousness and to attract the 18xx crowd (since the 2-D stock market is very similar to an 18xx game without the main board). The year was the year that this happened.

I have had ideas of creating a pickup-and-delivery board as an add-on to the game, so that instead of just getting a tulip of your choice from the market and using the buyer cards, you have to establish purchasing and supply routes to make colors available to you.

But my experience as an author has not been enjoyable, and I've been quite burned out of the hobby board game design business. I'm moving my design focus over to my research lab to make games appropriate for library settings.
