As I was going through my card games - many of which come in boxes that simply are a pain in the neck - I was looking for a better way to store them.

A friend gave me a small plastic box that has room for three decks of cards - all next to each other - with a snap down lid. I've found this to be great - it's softer plastic, so I don't worry about the plastic chipping like many plastic boxes.

Unfortunately, I removed the sticker from the box - so I can't remember the name of the company who produced this box, and I can't find it online anywhere (although knowing what to search for is a bit difficult).

Does anyone know what I'm talking about and can point me to a spot online to purchase these containers?

That looks pretty nice. Is there enough room to get a finger in there to get the cards out, or do you need to dump them?

There is room for a finger, AND a booklet will lay across the top of them. It's really nice - I want at least ten more!

I've been on this site for 10 years now, and I'm far from sick of games, but I think I am, to some degree, sick of learning too many new games. I'm also tired of playing 4+ hr multiplayer games, but I'll still happily play really long games 2 player.

It looks like a PLANO box. I don't know if they're available online, but I'll check.

Tom,

Don't know if you have any around you in Korea, but have you tried any baseball card or comic shops? Back in the day (before game shops in the area I grew up) these places are where I got all sorts of plastic boxes for Magic cards.

A little trick for ti,es when you need "finger space" for that type of box is to put slip of paper under the cards/dice/stuff, so you lift them out of the box easily.

Aha! Found them on eBay
http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&cam...

Still can't find where to purchase them online, though - I want to get at least twenty of 'em.

Okay being semi proactive guy I am (ie sick of googling the same hits) I directly called Plano molding company and talked to a customer service person. Yes they do produce the Jammer card cases there are two sku's

5305 - Trading Card box 10.5 x 8 x 2.75 - US 2.00 each
5325 - Jumbo Card case 11.25 x 8.5 x 3.75 - US 2.25 each

you can call Plano customer care (number found here http://www.planomolding.com/content/index.cfm?siteaction=con...) and order the cases directly from them. The boxes are in cases of 6 boxes each. How ever the only caveat is the cases I am looking at in the fax they sent me are different looking the one one your photo tom. but from the really dark photo copied fax it looks like this product would work for you

Hope this helps.

would anyone ELSE also 'want' such as well? I was discussing just that 'topic' with some others and yet still another "RE-design" for varying 'themes' with this.

In the Atlanta area, the three space card box is available at most Target stores, though sometimes any given store may be out of them for a little while. I use a lot of these - the cards from a complete Citadels set (all in sleeves) fit in two compartments, plus one compartment full of flattened glass gems (and king token). You can also toss three Adlung games in one with some room to spare. There is an odd tab, designed to help make sure the cover aligns without effort, that you may want to cut off if you plan to pack all three compartments full.

They also make the two much larger boxes described above. The slightly larger one (which will hold poker cards standing up) seems easy to find here. I dislike that one - the rectangular sections are designed to hold two different types of cards (MtG/Poker size and a Wide style I've usually seen for movie cards) The bottom of each section is raised except for a quarter-inch along each edge, to protect the corners. Because this occurs in both directions to accommodate the two types of cards, either type you put in also has the quarter-inch of cards at front and back lower than the rest.

The slightly smaller large box came out (in our area) a long time ago about the same time as the Decipher Star Trek CCG first appeared, with MtG going strong. It holds poker size cards on their sides and so is an inch less tall. It doesn't seem to have the drawbacks of the larger one. It is harder to find but many of our WalMart stores have it back in the cards section of the toys area - but not in the trading cards section near the front.

I've tried to figure out who you contact at Plano about ideas, without success. They should make a two card-sized compartment version of the smallest one with a narrow third compartment between the others that could hold 5 or 6 dice or a couple of short pencils. This would allow for a single center clasp with the necessary aligned indent on the lower part placed between the card compartments. The alignment tab could be positioned to fall into that area as well. At three long the current one is just a bit too bulky for a lot of situations, where a two-parter would be much more practical.

The link on eBay you included above is for one of the larger ones - it looks like the smaller of the two large ones. 8.5 x 11 x 2.75

I've noticed the small three compartment box like you have was out of stock for several months at Target, but about 3 months ago started showing up in all our stores ($2). However they all seem to be coming from two molds, both of which have rough spots along some edges which my boxes from several years ago do not have.

This might be an indication that the molds are getting old. They all used to carry the Jammers branding, so I don't know why the contact person in another reply would have only mentioned two. Perhaps they have worn out the molds and discontinued this small model.

Our Target stores usually have 4-6 at any given time. To get 20 one would have to hit a bunch of them. There is a Target on-line presence. I don't know what their delivery area is outside the US. Have you thought of getting someone in the states to pick some up and send them to you?

I found an eBay seller who sold them by the case (6 in each case). So I picked up four of them. I'm not sure how many of my card games that will hold - but I'm guesstimating about thirty or forty of 'em. I'll take pictures and post them once I get them in and fill 'em up.

As of April 2008 only the larger Jammers are still available from Plano

In case anyone else is interested in these card holders, Plano customer service told me that the smaller size is not longer made or in stock. You can still get the larger ones by calling 800-226-9868 Monday thru Friday 8am to 4pm central time.

I can personally attest that the larger boxes (the 8 x 11 x 4s) are AWESOME...they hold literally hundreds of cards but leave them very accessible, easy to flip through and to pull out.

I know I sound like I work for the company, but man, seriously, these things are ultra nift.

Just a quick note...anyone else notice that model 5325 apparently has FOUR measurements? I knew they were cool, but apparently this thing has dimensions I'm not even using...

I just got off the phone with them. They are currently out of stock of the #5325 (thought it is apparently still in production. They did have the #5305-02, at $2.31 apiece. I picked up a case of 'em for $21, including shipping and tax, which is not bad, considering that getting only one of them at the local Meijer will cost you five bucks.

(Dave, let me know if you need any. I'm sure I'll have more than I really need for my card collection.)

I just want to confirm as of early May 2009 that this same process and these same boxes work just fine. I called the Plano number listed above and talked with a nice woman who conveyed that they were out of the Card Storage Boxes (#5305) that week and I should call back a week later when they had manufactured some more. I did, and they indeed had them in stock, so I ordered a box of a half dozen for the same price listed above, and they arrived a few days later. Very handy! (For Magic or any card game....)

Thanks again,

David G.

Re: Looking for a plastic card container..
Ugh. Broken links. Expired eBay links. Let me take Wanda's post and reformat and add to it:

Storage Boxes from:
Customer Service Dept.
Plano Molding Company
431 East South Street
Plano, Illinois 60545
Email: customercare@planomolding.com
Telephone: 800-226-9868

They have 3 diffrent Card Collector Cases for sale

#1) Item #5303 it's 8.25 X 4.25 X 1 inch. 3 Compartments. Holds 1000 Jumbo cards or 2000 Standard. Quanities of 6. Each one is $1.00.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/314379

#2) Item #5305 it's 10.5" X 8 X 2.75 inch. 5 Compartments. Quanities of 6. Each one is $2.00. It looks like this would hold Dominion cards horizontally.

#3) Item #5325 it's 11-3/16 X 8.5 X 3-7/8". 6 Compartments. Quanities of 6. Each one is $2.25. It looks like this would hold Dominion cards vertically.

I got the person there to fax me the descriptions with the images. It is a terrible fax, almost unreadable. I will try to scan it and put it up here, but it is almost worthless except for the drawings.

I am thinking I may order 6 of each of the larger boxes just to take pictures of them and then sell the extras at BGG.CON. Ah, but they are out of stock on all 3 types. I got my name on the calling list, but she tells me they only make them once or twice a year. Sigh.

Outlet Store: (I have not tried them. All I got was an answering machine.)

I emailed them yesterday (9/15/2009) about all 3 skus and received the following response...

Quote:
Pertaining to your inquiry regarding our JAMMER card boxes. All three of these items are current but are extremely difficult to locate at a retail level. You may, however, purchase them directly from us via credit card. To utilize our services please contact us at 1-800-226-9868 Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30am and 4:00pm (Central Time). We are currently out of the 5303 and 5325 (do not know when we will be doing another run on them). Please contact us at a later time to place order.

Thank you for your inquiry and continued interest in our products.

Consumer Customer Care

I called today to place my order for the 5305s. I asked about the other 2 skus and the lady informed me that they had not done a run on them in over a year and she does not know when they will. However she did said their backorder system does have a lot of small quantity people interested, and she feels that they are real close to doing a run. So I would say if you are interested in obtaining any of the 2 back-ordered skus, call them up and ask to notified when these are back in stock. They will ask how many you would be interested in (you are not committed until they actually take your order). So be honest and tell them. If they get a few more people interested, they just might do a run.

Thanks,
-Tom
