Howdy y'all,

Some friends and I just put together this half-hour feature about Diplomacy. (Its length necessitates it being split across three YouTubes, sadly.) I hope that you find it informative and entertaining!

Re: The Gameshelf on Diplomacy (video)
Hey, that move of the English fleet from Barents to St. Petersburg and then to Bothnia was illegal. There's no portage in Diplomacy!!! :D

Got the download in a single file via iTunes.

Excellent episode - I was looking for an insight into the feel of the discussions in this game. I also really appreciate your efforts with each episode.

Fun to watch -- makes me realize what my diplomacy games of the past were missing...hats!

A very good peek into what a diplomacy game is like though, for those who haven't played yet.

Dave:

I was fully expecting the first comment in the show's BGG post to point out a rules flub on our part - thank for you not disappointing me. :) We were all newbies to this game (modulo some who last tried it in high school), and this was our first attempt to play it through to the end.

I can't recall offhand whether that particular move stood, or whether it was the result of some video-editing shorthand on my part. I stand by the excuse that it helps make the story clear, which was my main goal. I hope that people playing the game for real will read the rulebook (and consult BGG) rather than turn to this video for guidance!

Wonderful video and really show's the tension between negotiating and the orders being read. THanks for doing and sharing. Looks like the players had fun too.
