I know it's a Block Game & Caesar vs Pompey is the name of the Game..
BUT...Pharnaces II of Pontus was no small thing (ok we wasn't that big a thing but he was at least a medium thing).

A client king via Pompey's salad days he took advantage of the
Roman Civil War & in 48BC knocked off a small Roman Force
& as a result Caesar had to leave Egypt & deal with him.

Pharnaces had some 20,000 men (mostly Inf.conscrips) & Caesar
had a full Legion & parts of 2 others .The Battle of Zela in 47BC
( it's even marked on the JC Game Map) settled the matter
& Caesar did the "Veni, vidi, vici" bit (well Plutarch said
he did).

In any case it seems like some acknowledgement should be made
in JC for this event.

I'm thinking an Event that would require the nearest Legion to
the Zela Battle site to turned face down & a Move deducted
from the card for that turn to represent this.

Perhaps get 4 extra color Blocks & another label sheet & put
the 4 Auxilia on them & have them enter the Game from the West
on the Road to Eusebia.

As Pharnaces was out for himself & not an ally of either
Caesar or Pompey,I guess it would be up to whoever was
controling Asia/Africa portion of the map to deal with him.
Pharnaces would be able to operate on all Roads in Pontus &
Cappadocia.

Any thoughts or am I just trying to Gild (or chrone) the lillywhistle

I don't want to re-open an old discussion but...see what I meant when around here BGGrs were debating about the "religious" events representing a lost chance in this game? Wouldn't be a great historically chromed&flavoured event card the Pharnaces' one as you describe it (and with the kind of effects you've just suggested) randomly happening at some times during the war years?

OMG I hadn't read that thread .Anyway Grant replied on Colombia JC
Forum that old Pharnaces was left out to keep the game a simple
Caesar vs Pomphey contest "less is sometimes more"is how he put it.

I stll am going to home rule something on this now that I know
this was not accounted for in someway I just was not seeing.

I take delivery via UPS in two days & am looking forward to
playing it.

Perhaps you meant the enter from the East on the road to Eusebia.
Yes up to 4 extra blocks would be needed as the average legion size was 5,000 men or less.
1) 3 step 3C Pharnaces block (enters full strength 48 BC)
2) 4 step 2C Pharnaces block (enters as recruits by build 48 BC)
3) 5 step 1C Pharnaces block (V IV III II)(enters full Strength 47 BC)
4 3 step 1B Pharnaces block (enters as recruits by build 47 BC)
Or some combination of blocks above. Blocks Enter East roads to Eusebia or Sinope turn two 48 BC and turn three 47 BC.
An initiative roll is made for who controls the Pharnaces forces, after each card of a turn are resolved by both players. Controller of forces may make one move plus optionally one build (after Caesar and Pompey have done actions on cards they played). This way no long term or short term plans can be made with the Pharnaces forces. Pharnaces would be able to operate on all Roads in Pontus & Cappadocia.

Possibly any units moving on Roads in Pontus & Cappadocia are 1/2 in 47 BC. This rule would be the easiest to implement or add, and effects both players equally.

So much for the famous Dwarf sense of Directionlaugh
Yes I ment East...I'm working on something like your suggestions.

What I still find strange now that I have the Game I noticed
in the Rule Book it gives all the info.on Pharnaces
but having done so still doesn't factor him into the Game.

William, I hope you enjoy the game! Remember if you play Caesar the first time you have to be aggressive or you will go down in defeat.

Good luck proving you deserve to be Emperor!

Thanks for buying the game! Once again enjoy!
