I didn't have a team before, so I don't mind contributing to Team Geekdo. But I'm curious about if we still get GG for it. :)

Is that a lot? I started folding last month and I am at 44 WU for 144050 points. It runs on my 4 core (8 if you count SMT) i7 PC at work. I figured I should put those cores to work when I am not there.

It's a lot indeed. But your contribution it's in the "insane" region

When J gets around to it - it's usually the first or second of the month though.

edit: And I see looking at my own account he hasn't done October yet.

Do I have to buy a microbadge or are they just handed out? Another week or so and I'll be ready for my 50k badge.

Just noticed I've been folding for a week.

They appear as if by magic - but only when Jeremy has the time. There is a thread to remind him when you reach the level for copper silver or gold.

I've downloaded the software, joined the guild, and... uh... is this thing on?

Edit: Ok, it is now on my system tray... got in and set my name and team and that honking hexidecimal password... I have a firewall so I suppose I need to set up a proxy (Am I just reading the wrong FAQ? Where is all this stuff?). The thing just keeps saying "Attempting to get work packet")

Edit #2: Well, I've blown a hole in my firewall for everything that seems to be associated with the software... And the attempts for work packets continues. Looking at the various links for contributions it appears that I haven't made any. So, if anyone is running this on Vista Home Premium and it's working on yours, then please PM me. Maybe we can make a real FAQ together...

Edit #3: Hmm... Basically a week has passed since I installed this. It doesn't work. The FAQ at every site is completely unimformative, and no help has been offered for my problem. One week with no support? Wow, that's so sad. So, the software is now uninstalled and my firewall is back to normal. A good idea, but it's unfortunate that it isn't getting the support it deserves.

I have a computer that is always on and rarely used - is this any use for folding or does someone need to be logged on?

If someone wants to walk me through the set up process GM me.

A little late to the party, perhaps, but I have a PS3 with lots of spare clock cycles while it's not being used for anything else...

So I've got a WU already completed for you, despite not having signed up until last night.

Should add, I only get to that computer every few weeks (it is not where I live) so there is no rush to get me the instructions.

Yes - as long as the program is running as a service under windows, it will run even if a user is not logged in...

what is the OS? different OS's handle this differently, and I am going to assume you are running WinXP or something similar... if not, please disregard everything below, and state your OS in a reply/comment - so the appropriate people can comment...

I used the "run any program as a service" method - there are several good walkthru's online, and can help you prepare documentation on what to do when you are at the PC in question...

do you have remote access to it? if you do, then you can do some of the steps remotely... consider something like DYNDNS for access if you have the pc behind a firewall/router (always a good practice) along with something like UltraVNC, or some other VNC style program for full control of the PC (as long as it's on)... then you can use it remotely and not have to physically touch the box, or go out there as often (this may be a good or bad thing depending on who you ask - personally, it's come in handy...)

sorry for the long winded "Maybe" but wanted to cover a few bases, and open a few ideas for you...

Once you get the required 10 WUs in with a passkey, switch to the -bigadv units. Those things generate 50K+ points every three days on my 2008 Mac Pro....

Has anyone got their GG for October yet, or is it only me who's missed out? Just wondering, if jmilum hasn't got round to it yet (and is probably busy whooping it up at BGG Con or something) then no worries!

Can you post a little more info? I basically got the clients running and went no further, don't have much time to get super-involved.
