I just came up with these rules since I prefer to play as a single character but want an adversary (bot, if you will) to fight against.

1.choose a character for the bot.

2.For every str or cft you obtain the bot obtains the same for their particular strength (a strength based character will collect strength and vice versa. If you obtain a craft and your a Barbarian for example, the bot will obtain the opposite for their character as well.)

3.the bot moves 3 spaces a turn in whichever direction (or to speed things up, the bot doesn't move from its original square unless it goes to 'attack mode' or attempts the Crown of command, see below).

4.the bot doesn't need to draw cards or is affected by events or locations.

5.Every gold or other items or followers you lose the bot obtains (to their specific limits).

6.If you roll the same movement twice in a row the bot gains a spell (or if that's too infrequent, every time you roll a 5 or 6 twice in a row, or just every time you roll a 6) to their specific limit.

7.On a movement roll of yours of 1, the bot goes to 'attack mode' and throws a spell at you or else keeps moving towards you until it can attack you (it doesn't need gold to cross rivers etc). If successful a bot takes a life on 1-3 or an item/gold on 4-6 (or a particular bot may only take lives, for example). Bots will attempt to use their special abilities for attacks (or defence) or to shorten distances for travel however that may be). After an attack the bot resumes the game as normal (either 3 spaces or no movement until the next 'attack mode' or Dragon King challenge).

8. If you attack or use spells against the bot it will attempt the same in return, as in 7. above, before resuming normal play.

9.At a preset craft or strength level the bot automatically obtains a Talisman and attempts to claim the crown of command (the bot won't be activated thus, even if already holding a talisman until that preset is reached. The bot can lose their items and followers in the dragon's tower.

10. When you decide to go for the Crown of Command if the bot doesn't have a talisman of its own it will go into attack mode and use a spell or attack to steal yours and then attempt to obtain the Crown itself, as per 9 above.

11. I suppose the only consideration with multiple bots is that only one (or two?) can go into 'attack mode' against you at one time (unless your going for the CoC). Also using different preset levels of craft or strength for each of the bots before they go after the Dragon king would make it more interesting. When one bot goes for the Crown of Commmand all the other bots could be activated into attack-mode to stop it/ start their own attempt.

Well just my thoughts let me know what you think.

Thanks! I like how the rules keep the solo feel while maintaining competition.

In revision I'd say don't move the bots until 'activated' in accord with the rules, in order to keep play economical and fast-paced.

For variety I'd also add a random value for Bot activation when challenging the Dragon King. For example, if the Bot was to activate on 8+ str/cft to challenge the Dragon King, randomize the process by making it 5-6 on a d6 with 8+ str/cft, 4-6 on d6 with 9+ str/ cft etc. This makes Bot activity more random and human-like, but doesn't overly slow down play. Optional use rules however.
