Played this for the first time last night 5 players. Whilst I quite enjoyed the experience it suddenly became obvious that going first (early) was going to be a game winning advantage. I thought Iain (Player1) was going to finish his Final Destination first then he beats me by 1 point but fortunately he'd miscalculated and I (Player 3) started collecting planes first on my card so I then beat Tom (Player 5) by 2!
I need to check the rules again (not my game) but in a group where tight games are common I'd hate to feel getting first turn gives that big an advantage.

As a footnote I had identified the short route game-end rush tactic but I digressed and chased an extra 3 point route otherwise I think I'd have won easily with quite a low score (30/31).

I've played only a handful of games, but they have been spread across 2, 3, and 4 players. We have not seen anything "obvious." Although there have been 1 point victories I think your first-time observation may be a bit premature.

I beat player 5 because I had one more action than he did.
If we had the same action each it would have been a tie - just didn't feel like a victory in a way.

In the playtests, there wasn't a preponderance of first-player or second-player wins. The biggest complaint about first players was in earlier versions, when playtesters complained that the first player got the best selection of 1-point Flight cards. We alleviated this (somewhat) by starting with two 1-point cards per player in the initial layout.

Equal turns has been suggested, but this has a few problems. You can't play your Final Flight until two Vacation cards have come out, and equal turns from the start of the game won't guarantee equal turns from the start of Vacation time. This can mean a two-point difference as players place planes on their Final Flight cards.

Nothing we tried could make it completely fair. Actually, this is not an uncommon occurance in a game. (I hate going first in Seidler/Settlers, because my second settlement is always in a terrible location.) If you want to try a new way, you could try something we tested (and then abandoned for a simpler setup): Unequal starting money. The first player starts with 26 Euros instead of 30. The second player gets 28 Euros, the third player gets 30, and so on.

Hey Kris, just to confirm, the unequal starting money (26, 28, 30, etc), has it been fully tested and guaranteed to make the game more balanced?

It has been tried a couple of times, so I can't call that "fully playtested". If you try it, then could you please let me know what your results and evaluations were?

And that would make you a playtester.

I don't know any specific retailers, but Swann Panasia bought several cases from us to distribute to southeast Asia. Maybe there's a way to find out from them who sells it.

Continue playing to the last player when the two Vacation cards come out as normal without final flight. After that round, then move into the final flight and play equal turns.
