Running the Mac OS 10.5 SMP client on two 8-core Mac Pros. Just started this month and 84k points already

Once you get the required 10 WUs in with a passkey, switch to the -bigadv units. Those things generate 50K+ points every three days on my 2008 Mac Pro....

Can you post a little more info? I basically got the clients running and went no further, don't have much time to get super-involved.

http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ-passkey

You can set up a PassKey with the Folding@Home servers, which uniquely identifies you. This is needed in order to get the BigAdv work units (which require 8 cores or more). To get BigAdv work units, a -bigadv switch is needed when starting the program.

After you successfully complete 10 work units with that pass key, you start earning bonus points as well!

Note that the -bigadv work units, in order to get them done on time, require the computer to be on 24/7.

Man, wish I had access to hardware like that...

Does anyone know how to enable the -bigadv switch on the OS X gui client? I've added it to the extra parameters but it didn't work, and the F@H website is not exactly what I would call usable.

The -bigadv may only come into effect after you have completed 10 work units with your pass key in place. Unfortunately, the pass key is not retro-active (you still have all your points, but the number of work units completed with the pass key starts at 0)

... and -bigadv WUs are not always available. They seem to come in batches, and when all are exhausted, you only get standard WUs for a while, until another batch appears.

You probably want "-smp 8 -bigadv" in your extra parameters.

I haven't received GG in months but I got my badge about three weeks ago if I remember correctly.

I got a whole lot at once in mid-March, so the scheme is still on as far as I can tell.

Anyway, it's worth doing, geekgold or not.

Microbadge?
I passed 50 k over the weekend, and now I am looking forward to the awesome microbadge. Do you have to do anything special to get it, or should I just sit and wait?

Thanks,
AE

You just need to sit and wait. It seems they sort of fall behind and then catch up real quick on the GG and badges. I didn't get my 1M badge until I was over 2M several months later, and I got like 4 months of geekgold at once too. Maybe they will do a little better this time.

There is a script now, before it was all done manual.
But the script still has to be run manual, so you will probaly get your microbadge in the beginning of July.

Decided to give this a go, after all it's for multiple good causes

I just have a query; I've loaded the FAH Client on 3 computers, one at home & two of my work units. I'm just making an educated guess that if all clients are running simultaneously they are all retrieving seperate WUs and not all attempting to complete a singular WU each and of their own.

Example by doing this I am completing WU A, B & C as opposed to all my computers having their own attempt at WU A and starting from scratch on each client?

Just figure with 3 computers at my disposal (a 4th once I get my fiance's rig up and running again) that I may as well donate processing on all of them rather than just one, but if they all work at seperate attempts all on the same WU I may as well just let one rig do all the work

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help answer this

First WU has been completed, updated the Team Geekdō Wiki to reflect. Wasn't sure if notification here was necessary or not here, but look forward to completing many many more WUs as time goes on cool
