So, it's pretty clear that the Cylon Ambush destination is purely pro-human when playing with the cylon fleet option: large distance, low fuel, and a small fleet that stops a larger one from jumping in. I was thinking of some possible variants for this situation (all of these replace the (cylon and civilian) ship placement text, leaving everything else the same:

- immediately advance the pursuit track to auto-attack, resolving all spaces along the way

- advance the pursuit track 2 spaces

- advance the pursuit track 3 spaces, stopping once auto-attack is reached

Does this seems like a reasonable approach, and what do you think is the right balance point?

This approach is still underpowered if the fleet jumped away from a tiny fleet (e.g. 2 raiders and a basestar). That tiny fleet would come back again, guaranteeing a breather in spite of having 3 more civilian ships out there. The placement of each ship would be more varied, but the setup is still similar to the original destination.

3 ideas:

- Lose 2 fuel. Then place 1 basestar and 3 raiders in front of Galactica and 3 civilian ships behind Galactica.

- Lose 1 fuel. Then place 2 basestars and 3 raiders in front of Galactica and 3 civilian ships behind Galactica.

- Lose 1 fuel. Then place 1 basestar and 6 raiders in front of Galactica and 3 civilian ships behind Galactica.

I prefer the 2nd and 3rd one.

Personally, I think it's fine that sometimes the fleet that jumps in will be small...I like having the ship placement be primarily driven by the CFB mechanism. Your comment does make me lean towards the "advance pursuit track two spaces" option, though.

How about placing all of the ships from the CFB on the main board instead of just adding a basestar and some raiders?

Re: Cylon Ambush destination variant for Cylon Fleet option
How about ignoring the CFB temporarily, and digging up a random Cylon Attack Crisis from the game box? Leave it in play under its special rules, just for this one situation, just how a lot of play groups leave the Scar crisis in the deck even with CFB.
