I'll be having a 7 player game tomorrow, and finally nobody is new to the game. Even to the least experienced ones had 2-3 plays before. Still, I do not wish to house rule the game to pieces, it took me quite a while until I got them to believe that the experienced players do not win by "knowing some rules they don't", but by micromanaging when human, and lying through the teeth when cylon.
That said, I do want to house rule the 7 player variant, and I'd like to hear your ideas about it. Since with exodus, we have enough loyalty cards to make any combo doable, I was thinking about this: - game goes to Kobol, no battle at the end - we mix 2 cylons, 6 PG+FF mixed and 6 YANA (+1-1 YANA for Boomer and Baltar) together, we deal out the initial loyalties then immediately mix in another cylon. (in case of executions, the "secondary" loyalty deck consists of all the remaining PG+FF+YANA cards)
+1 Food and Morale sounds about right to me when adding in a third Cylon. If you are suing the attack cards with the Fleet board you may want to add a population.
We used this, plus there was a -1 population penalty on losing pegasus, plus there was the "Sacrifice Pegasus" rule (Admiral may sacrifice Pegasus as an action, if 2 or more pegasus locations are damaged, remove all cylon ships from one space area, otherwise remove ALL cylon ships from the main board. All players on Pegasus are sent to sickbay)
It all turned out very well, the humans won by a very small margin, even though the third cylon card remained OUTSIDE of the game (again)
