Oh, I had another thought while using the app. In each game, is it possible to have a tab to view the photo section? I do tend to look through the photos of any new games I am browsing and it would be nice to be able to dio it when out and about via this app!

Thanks again. If you put ads on to make a few shekels I certainly wouldn't be upset.
I'd rather ads were avoided if possible. I really can't stand ads in applications. They clutter and feel awkward. I'd rather a small donation was an option, which I would be more than happy to do!

Photos (except for the thumbnail) aren't available from the API, so showing them isn't currently in the plans. Oh, and we don't plan on adding ad support. But feel free to send us some Geek Gold! whistle

Is the API determined by the BGG admin then? (Please excuse my technical naivety here)

I would say admin does not necessarily equal programmer, but the other way around this might be true.

One thing that has always irritated me about the two BGG apps is that although they give you the ability to log "plays", there isn't any way to view or check what you've logged.

Earlier, I was using the app to record what games I'd played on the weekend. I'd played several. After I'd logged a few of them, I couldn't remember for sure if I'd already logged one particular game. But there's no way to check other than to log into the website. (Seems kinda "impure" in a way - being able to set something that you can't view.)

This happens to me frequently. It would be great if there was even just the last few days of games played.

I don't know if anyone suggested this yet, but I would like to be able to filter out expansions from my collection.

Yep, that will be added eventually. Right now, it's not easy to determine what's an expansion, so it may take a little while to figure it out.

It depends how your doing the search in the app. If your searching using the advanced searching of the site, when searching for "No Expansions" it uses the flag "&nopropertyids[]=1042". If your app is doing the searches and adding the files to a local mysql database, add a field to the database identifying if the app is and expansion or not, and when parsing the info and polls, if there's text in front of the "Expands" field just mark the flag.

I just wanted to add that this app is really well designed and it makes my life really easy when searching for rules and info about my games.

The filtering of collections is done against the local database, not by using the site's search. In the XML API, there is no indication of whether a game is an expansion or a base game - both "expand" each other. There are a few ways around this limitation, but they all require us to use XMLAPI2, which isn't as easy as throwing a switch. So, it will happen eventually, but probably not in the next release.

I didn't know that there was a XML API for BGG. I've taken a look at it and searched for expansions and main games, and I've noticed that the expansions have an inbound="true" in the boardgame expansion field, that links to the main game. Here are some examples:

Agricola: Farmers of the Moor
< boardgameexpansion objectid="31260" inbound="true">Agricola< / boardgameexpansion>

Arkham Horror: Dunwich Horror
< boardgameexpansion objectid="15987" inbound="true">Arkham Horror< / boardgameexpansion>

for comparison, this is the expansion field for dunwich in the Arkham Horror XML
< boardgameexpansion objectid="21059">Arkham Horror: Dunwich Horror Expansion< / boardgameexpansion>

Hope this can help

Note: I had to put spaces in the tags so they could be shown in this message

Sorry for double posting, but this is a different way of getting the same results, only using the XML API and not needing to filter results

I've analysed the POST message sent when I filtered my collection and I've found the parameter you're missing.
just try this:
xmlapi/collection/username?excludesubtype=boardgameexpansion

a link for test:
www.boardgamegeek.com/xmlapi/collection/ccomeaux?excludesubt...

Hope now you'll be able to implement it

You just named the 2 methods I was planning on using. I thought the "inbound" flag was only available on XMLAPI2, but looking again it appears to be there for XMLAPI as well. Hopefully we can add this in the next release. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the heads up Robot Monkey, just went and ran my update. I'm digging the games played section, and removing the the sync button from the main screen down to a menu.

Thanks for posting here. (I normally try to at the same time we push to the market, but real life sometimes gets in the way.) We wanted to get the new release out there so that everyone who has Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) (like me!) can still sync. Let me know if you see any problems. Version 3.5 is already underway...

Any chance for a semi-permanent apk link for those of us with a Kindle Fire?

Love the App, was just curious if there were any plans in the works to include user specific game info. Was thinking it could be an additional tab for each game in the collection an could include basic info of total plays, date added to collection, comments etc.

Thanks for all your great work.

I'm sure I could put the APK on the Google code site. I'm not sure what the requirements are for running on a Kindle Fire. Do you just need an unsigned APK?

There are plans for this, but nothing immediate. I hope that we will soon have the ability to add games to your collection from the app. Once that's in place, we can show some of this private information fairly easily.

I would love to test it on Kindle Fire, but I don't think there is other way of installing it without direct access to apk file.

Sorry I didn't respond, I sincerely thought I had. Yes, the Fire just needs the apk as it has the ability to install software from other locations. Jakub - I am interested in what you have running on the Fire... I will GM you...

Next release, I will be sure to add the APK where Fire users can get it. Maybe I'll even uploaded it before the next release. But definitely with the next release.
