Hi!
I just recently got into this game (got it in a recent math trade), and had a blast with it! I was thinking this might be an excellent PBF game, so is anyone interested in playing? I'd be happy to host it.

Re: Any interest?
I'm thinking it might be most practical with three, simply because then I could just post the cards drawn and the distributor could also just post his choices into the thread straight away. It would eliminate the need for any PMing. But either would be fine with me.

I own the game but haven't played. I'd be willing to give it a go.

Cool, that's 2 down, 1 to go :) And the Godfather of PBFs at that. I'm honored ;)

So I've been thinking a little about the format. I'm thinking it's gonna be pretty straight forward. Not sure how complicated I want/we need to make it, especially with regards to displaying the board. Will something just slapped together in paint.net do the job for you? Right now I'm just thinking I'll mock over a picture of the board. Bare with me, I just did this in a couple of minutes to give you a general idea, it is not meant to be pretty ;) Everything should be pretty obvious:

If anyone has any problems differentiating colors, just let me know and we can probably work some more details into it. I figured we could just get rid of the names of the different districts and just call them by their colors (green, orange, yellow, blue, red, brown). The only info not showing at the moment is the supply of bridges as well as each players collected limit points. Any thoughts? Suggestions for improvements? (other than 'you suck at graphics', I already know that ^^) Stuff I've missed?

EDIT: I'll be making the aristocrat boxes a bit bigger.

Looks good. Only thing I don't see is the point values of the different districts.

Sounds like you're full now, but I'm in if you need another person down the road.

Good catch! I must have just forgot to show the layer before saving the image. Still got room for one more, so you're free to join if you want :)

I'm just gonna assign you colors that I can easily remember from your avatars, if that's ok:
ideogram: White
Brian: Blue
Tom: Black

I'll randomly decide on the starting order and fill the board with your starting aristocrats.
white starting roll 1d6 = (3) = 3
blue starting roll 1d6 = (3) = 3
black starting roll 1d6 = (4) = 4

So the order of play will be Black (Tom), White (ideogram) and Blue (Brian).

Rolling for starting aristocrats:
Black 1d6 = (6) = 6
Black 1d6 = (2) = 2
Black 1d6 = (2) = 2
Black 1d6 = (5) = 5
White 1d6 = (6) = 6

So the starting board looks something like this:

Where do you want your first bridge, Tom?

(picture will keep updating, I don't see much point in posting it again in every single post I make)

Forgot to ask: Would you guys like to play with the variant rule of only allowing 2 bridges between each pair of districts? It's usually 3 (like in the 4-player game), but I feel like 2 makes more sense, or else it's one less tactic to consider.

I'm fine with a limit of 2.

I usually prefer the original rules, but with 3 players, the limit of 2 bridges makes the most sense.

If we aren't using names, could we add the die value assigned to the regions. I am still working on memorizing locations but knowing what region 4 is at a quick glance would be helpful. Thanks!

Oh, and blue would have been my choice anyways, so thanks!

And finally, I am out most of today and limited the next two days but will try to check in on my phone when possible.

Cool, thanks for letting me join. I figured it was full because I thought you'd be playing too, but I guess you're just running it... thanks!

The one visual thing that I find a little confusing is that there is a black square in regions where I have no aristocrats. Having a black square there makes me think I have 1 aristocrat there. Maybe it's too much trouble to remove those. If so, no problem, I'll get used to it. Just thought I'd mention it in case it's easy to address.

Yes, I would like to limit bridges to 2 between any two regions as you suggest.

My first bridge will go between Santa Croce and Dorsoduro.

Agreed. Or if you just want it as a placeholder (too difficult to remove) place a 0 in there when it is truly empty.

Cool, I'll get rid of them. Not much trouble, really. And, uhm, for simplicity's sake maybe we can just call the districts by their color? :) I at least by no stretch know them by heart yet. I also just named all the district cards by their color (red, green, brown, blue, yellow, orange).

ideogram, your first bridge?

Either I'm an idiot or the board pictures have disappeared (or both)... and I don't know what colors apply to each region...

I'll go with neither ;) The picture is updated to reflect the changes here: http://boardgamegeek.com/article/7748255#7748255
Posting the image every time someone makes a little change during the setup didn't feel necessary. I will of course repost if we get to a new page or something, and after each players turn later on.

Oh sure, no problem. I just didn't see any image of the board anywhere in the thread for some reason. I'd be fine with an old image that hadn't been updated, since very little had happened that would have warranted an update, but I just couldn't find any image to figure out the colors and such.

Anyway, I'll go with a red-green bridge.

Huh, that is weird. But I guess you know more about that stuff than me :D What might happen though, is that the server where the image is hosted timed out or something. It can happen sometimes. Not sure if there's any better solution for it either. Uploading it to BGG every time is just too much work.

Anywho! With the starting bridges placed, we can get the game started :)
I'll use some die rolls to select the order of 1st/2nd decision maker, high-roll making 1st decision.
White 1d6 = (2) = 2
Black 1d6 = (2) = 2
bah, rerolls....
white 1d6 = (5) = 5
black 1d6 = (1) = 1
(sorry, that should of course have been white and BLUE, not white and black)

The more I play around with this, the more I'm thinking of changing to individually drawing each cube instead and just moving them around. We'll see ... So here's the board for the first round:

Shuffling and drawing cards ...
Cards drawn: Transfer Orange Blue Green Brown Yellow Limit2 Limit1 Limit3 Limit1

- Tom divides these up in three groups, minimum of one card in each group
- ideogram chooses the group he wants and plays the cards in any order
- Brian then chooses one of the remaining groups and plays the cards
- Tom then plays the cards from the last group

All this can be done without any action from my side, so feel free to move it along if I take too long. I'll update as fast as I can.
