Secret Santa Polls - Week 2
It is now two weeks since the BGG Secret Santa targets went out, and four weeks until Christmas! Time for another poll to see how people are getting on.

Thanks to the 400 or so of you that answered the first week polls! You can review those here, they will close in about 12 hours or so.

I have tweaked some of the questions this time - some people quite rightly pointed out that the type of geeks who are answering these questions do not form a representative subsample of all BGG-SS participants, as the poll respondents are more likely to be active users of the BGG forums, and therefore more likely to taunt etc.

So this time, the questions are all about YOUR SANTA or YOUR TARGET. Even if we are a skewed group of BGG users, we have no control over our Santa or Target (except maybe Octavian - laugh), so they should represent a fair sub-sample of SS participants.

But before we begin on the Questions - as I write this there are 284 posts on the "Look what I got" geeklist. (Compared to 87 when I did the last poll a week ago). Lets see where all those gifts are ending up!

Note: I know not all recipients post to the list, and I know there are double posts etc. And I'm sure my numbers don't add up to 284. Deal with it.

mb USA: 157 gifts received
mb UK: 26 gifts received
(note, this includes users with England and Scotland flags, although I'm sure this will not be a popular move )
mb Canada: 25 gifts received
mb Germany: 8 gifts received
mb The Netherlands: 8 gifts received
(that one surprised me - I did not know we had so many Dutch geeks!)
mb Belgium: 7 gifts received
mb Unknown: 7 gifts received
(no flag and no clues to location in profile)
mb Portugal: 4 gifts received
mb Estonia: 3 gifts received
mb Finland: 3 gifts received
mb Israel: 3 gifts received
mb Poland: 3 gifts received
mb Australia: 2 gifts received
mb Austria: 2 gifts received
mb Chile: 2 gifts received
mb Denmark: 2 gifts received
mb Italy: 2 gifts received
mb Malaysia: 2 gifts received
mb New Zealand: 2 gifts received
mb Norway: 2 gifts received
mb Spain: 2 gifts received
mb Sweden: 2 gifts received
mb Brazil: 1 gift received
mb Croatia: 1 gift received
mb Iceland: 1 gift received
mb South Korea: 1 gift received
mb Luxembourg: 1 gift received

And now - on to the Polls!

Great! Poll Completed!

Just one little suggestion.. maybe for Week 3

The options on the second question about the Target (Where is your Target?)are:

Quote:
- In the same country as me

- A different country, but close enough to make shipping easy

- A LONG way away. (eg I had to check a map before dispatching the reindeer)

Actually in my case the answer was a mix of the 2nd and 3rd options. Because my target was LONG way away, but he was in a country that was really easy to ship

Anyway, I don't know if this would happen to lots of people, but in case you find it necessary it is a possible extra answer

PS: Still waiting to receive our gifts here in Argentina!!! laugh

I've been contacted, no gift received yet.

I've contacted my target, did not receive a reply via Santa account.
My target's gift was sent, I think it was received according to tracking info, no acknowledgement.

My second ninja santa in a row! Last year's pulled through, though, so I'm done being stressed about it. My target in a far away land played along with my messages, received his presents, and posted to the results list, so I couldn't be happier!

Well, I'm sure I'd be a little happier with presents of my own. whistle

Looks like I have a Ninja Santa of my own this year. I am a noob to the SS thing though I followed last years and had fun just looking at all the great gifts people got. I hope that I will hear something from my Santa at some point. It is a bit disappointing when a gift just suddenly appears on your doorstep with no communication whatsoever. Don't get me wrong the gift would be great but without the personality behind the gift it would be a little lacking.

In my target's gift has been ordered, but it's on pre-order. My target is aware.

Would you consider modifying your poll to reflect this? It may be interesting to see the number of Santas who have ordered games for their targets but may not be enjoyed by their targets until near/after Christmas day.

laugh At the point of making this list, no gifts had arrived to any geeks with Welsh Flags. There will be at least one in the next lot though!

Cool - I'll add something in to the next lot of polls (week 3 - should be up on Sunday).

Anyone else got any ideas for future questions?

Please remember that interacting with your target in any way beyond sending an appropriate gift is absolutely optional - it is not required or even expected.

Re: #3 "If you have contacted your Target, have they responded to Santa?" I only answered "yes" reluctantly as she* only replied to my friendly, many tauntings and messages checking to see if the presents had been made safe after a hairy delivery without being at home. Maybe add some more granularity to that one?

* Hint for my target? Deliberate misinformation? Or clever double bluff? You, dear reader, decide.

Unfortunately you have missed out for this year, but it is run through the Geek Exchange system:

http://boardgamegeek.com/geekexchange/browse

Signups run for a month or so (??) around October/November. It is generally announced in the Announcements section on the front page.

So keep an eye out for it next year!

My santa is also very, very quiet. But since it is my first secret santa, i have no idea what to expect. Maybe it's common for some santa's to wait a bit to send their gifts??

Anyway, i have already sent my present and got a very good taste of what secret santa is about

I stll have my hopes up!!

Last year I had one email from Santa - on Dec-11, to let me know the packages were on the way. And they made it, from the USA to New Zealand in perfect time, the second one arriving at 3pm on Christmas Eve!

So there is still plenty of time. Don't worry!
