Ahem...thanks Joe for putting me on straight & narrow...following the rules of contest...now....blush

Exactly what direction I'll go in I'm not sure...but it's a start....
It's going to be tactical & trying to get to an objective. It will be bloody, fast & sad. It will get personal. Each soldier will be named. It's about hopelessness & hope. Should be a piece of cake! (not)

What contest?

And what was wrong with your previous post? Seems like you only changed the title?

Looking forward to this anyway. Sounds a bit like Poor Bloody Infantry

It's for the Art & Game contest. First artists make art, second phase designers create a game.

You said you had ideas with each book, now's your chance!

Hi Pelle. Hadn't seen PBI sounds great though! I have Commando raid on Rommel & Reichstag. I like them.

I needed to post my wip/game with the A&G in subject line so everyone can find other threads involved with the contest.

Being a long time gamer, over the years...& years...I have found for me, playing, the look of a game is really important equally so game play. It's gotta be fun, tense give a taste of the era/situation portrayed. Yeah that said I've played games where the components just don't work for me but the game play was great!whistle

Yes! Actually I commented in the A & G thread long ago, but then I unsubscribed because I don't really have time for more projects, plus I thought there was zero chance of getting graphics for a wargame anyway, especially a ww1 wargame... but now maybe I will end up trying to design some game after all. No Man's Land sounds like my kind of game artwork (and this entry is for the G part of the competition, right?).

Yep it's me! This part of the game is for the art. Only the art. The image below is something I'm playing with for the look of one of the boards.

Hey thanks Val & Nigel.

Working on this as much as I can as soon as I get free time at home. Not easy with 4 kids but determined to do it! The card art still tweaking...so much to do. But this is great fun!

It's easier when they're old enough to feed and dress themselves. My parents started playing games again when I was in high school--they're fifth and final child was 7 at the time.

My have 2 years...
Everytime we play he starts stealing the pieces.
On other hand, I give him a dice and he toss it like a pro.
(luckier than I...)
I'm working hard on some game design for 'No Man's Land', even if never go ahead.

You must NEVER stop playing. Ages are: 21, 14 10 & 4.

Include them in the game. Make the rules simpler if needed to have a quick fun game.
The game must be FUN. Do not try & play the rules as they are play to their personalities, preferences etc.

My 4 yr old loves rolling dice ( he's better than me - gets great rolls!)

For example when we play Gears Of War. He knows the monsters & the good guys (us) He draws the cards. He moves the pieces. He pushes the bad guys over when they get wasted. None of the good guys have ever died. (well they did) But he 'revived them & we play on. He loves it. ( I'm training him up to play other wargames) Plastic army guys fight off 100's of red Indians with tanks & jets! whistle

He loves Zombies so we use the Hero Quest game pieces with Zombie Plague Skeletons & orcs attack a suburban home...Yeah we win again! zombie

My daughter (14) and my 10yr old son love Mystic Wood & others. The 21 yr old loves to play but he has a busy life, working etc...so not often home.

So many games...cool

They look pretty good to me!

I would say, though, that they already look pretty warm; especially the bigger, central one. If I were at the point you seem to be at, I'd be very tempted to de-saturate a little and cool off the colours to give it a more bleak feel, but maybe that's not what you're going for...

These look great. Though, in the spirit of the contest, you may want to provide something that would allow for a game that isn’t WWI.

Why?

Would you complain that artwork showing elves and orcs only allows for a fantasy game? Or that artwork showing trains only allows for a train game?

(OK, I'm biased. Both my two previous bgg competition game entries have been ww1-themed.)

But I'm sure someone could make a non-ww1 game from this? Consider it a challenge. Might result in a more interesting game than just going with the obvious.

Granted, it would be a challenge. I'm just saying that the impression that I get from the contest is that flexible artwork will score better than artwork that dictates theme. I certainly won't mind trying to dream up a WWI themed game. Though it should be called World Snore I.

To be honest I prefer this way.
Look at the art and smell the aura, the feel, the game.
But that's me, by now I'm drooling over the pictures whistle

Interesting comments. Ok I will look at the assets of this game working with without a WW1 theme & include the pieces in the components for interest & flexibilty many thanks to all for your posts.
