I second (third?) the call to not change anything and keep the WW1 theme. I would love to see some cool components to go with it. Been toying with a few ideas with what i've seen so far and i've been dying to create something WW1-y.
Please keep at it
If anything, it will be a challenge and, IMHO, that's the point of those contests (actually winning is less interesting). From my experience, the more restrictive the contest, the more awesome and out-of-the-box-y the final submissions are.
Looking forward to the rest of it

I had a thought on your actual question: I’d stick w/ the warm colors. We’ve all seen enough b&w trench pictures, methinks. Warm = unique.

Whatever you decide, I already start to design a WWI game.
Even I ending to not be able to enter on the contest, I would like to continue to develop ‘No Man Land’ with your art and support.
The warm color was one of the most important inspirations for my design.

Let this be a WWI game. You can only make a hot air balloon game out of the hot air balloon entry. Any game you make from the age of sail entry will involve ships. The theme of the game will be dictated by the artwork.

A game designer can take these assets and design any one of a hundred different games from them. I can make an area control WWI game, a pick up and deliver WWI game, a worker placement WWI game, etc. The theme isn't what's going be judged, just the game. And each game designer will be attracted to one art entry or another based on its look.

I like this art. No reason to make it "broader". If someone wants to design a "worst holiday ever" game with it, they will have to stretch themselves.

Looks very nice, but maybe the units will be not be contrasted well against the board? I didn't notice them at all first in the image in this scale. Maybe make the background behind the soldiers a bit lighter, more like the sky (or some other color that blends in well without blending in... uhm... you know).

This is going to be great anyway. Look forward to what others will make from this (and what I will make from it; or I hope I look forward to that, I know only at a very high level what it might become).

Re: WIP: A&G Artwork 'No Man's Land'
Hey Pelle thanks for comments, useful feedback, yeah I wasn't 100% on these parts as yet but absolut with the contrast - the infantry must standout from this board as well as the tactical/s ones. But gives me a different perspective when yourself & others comment on what would seem obvious at times but often missed when it's right in front of your (my) nose!

I like the way the character stands out from background but 'fits' with/into the environment.

I’ve been working on the design and I would like to ask if after the competition you would like to let me use the images in a print’n’play game (or even help )
To spice people, the game needs 2 boards, 100 cards (50 for the triple alliance 50 for the triple intendance) and 60 unit markers (30 for each side, numbered).
Each side shuffles the other deck of cards and the exchange the decks.
Each player takes the top 30 cards and chooses 20. Each of this card represent one historical fact that happened during the trench war.
More updates soon

I don't supposed there's a chance you could post what you've got so far at the deadline in case there's enough to make a game with anyway, even if not so much as you'd intended to do? What we've seen so far looks pretty good!

Agreed. Someone might be able to cobble together a game with what you have.

I'm worried about the deadline, too. I already know I won't be able to finish both entries. I forgot about holiday travel.

I'm not sure it is in the spirit of the competition, or very nice to others here, to post about post-compo deals already (or at any time before both compos are over),

Not sure I will find time for this, but still sad if this beautiful artwork is not put to good use in some diverse games in the competition.

Am I going to need to abandon the contest? If no one enters artwork....
Or should I just extend the deadline to Jan 8?

Do not abandon ship!

I vote for an extension. This will turn out to be a good contest.

I believe I'm still on target for two entries; I've got one all but sewn up, so I'm fairly confident. It's just a bad time of year for it, I think, since everyone's busy with holiday stuff... I don't /think/ I need an extension myself, but I'm not opposed to the idea. If we get another art entry or two out of it, it's got to be worth it, right?

+1 for extension. There's no rush to get to the design part so if the artist are willing to do the art then extend the time. I for one look forward to the finished designs

Jan 8 or Jan 15 or some other date? I don't want to extend the date a third or fourth time if I can help it.
