Gaming is for having fun. Fun requires clear rules.

Before Christmas it was:
2 players: Drako
3-5 players: Ticket to Ride: Europe
6-8 players: Bang! The Bullet!

Now for 3-6 players it is A Game of Thrones: The Board Game 2nd ed.

There is a road, no simple highway, between the dawn and the dark of night, and if you go no one may follow, that path is for your steps alone. Ripple in still water, when there is no pebble tossed, nor wind to blow.

To seek the sacred river Alph, to walk the caves of ice, to break my fast on honey dew and drink the milk of paradise... I had heard the whispered tales of immortality, the deepest mystery, from an ancient book I took a clue.

Just in case clarification is needed, you should have 12 stone resources in the box, but of course you can still play the game and if necessary use a substitute counter like little stones from the driveway or such!

Half a year ago my favorite game was probably something like Risk as I didn't know anything about the board game world...

Today, I own 250 board games thanks to BGG! My favorite right now has to be Puerto Rico, but El Grande and other eurogames are awesome too

... aaand we have a new number 1: Agricola! I hadn't tried it by the time I wrote about Puerto Rico, but now I've played it 7 times and I love it! So far it's my only 10 (PR 9.5)! I'm sure there will be other 10s in the future, and Agricola might even be downgraded to a 9 or so in the future, but right now I feel it's an "outstanding game, I always want to play it and expect this will never change"!

Have to admit that the iOS version of Caylus has been a good fit right now...whenever I have time, on the go, no set up.

For 4-6 year olds, you can't go wrong with Turtle In Turtle Out. We had a hoot the other night.

The opposite would be Race for the Galaxy. Recently I've played a couple of games, played the AI many times and cannot get my head around it. Take this the right way...it seems like a whole lot of work and memorizing cards in order to play a game. Not very intuitive until you learn the cards. For me the ideal game is simple concept, deep gameplay. RftG is deep concept which would lead to deep game play (if you get there). Again, probably a personal time/schedule issue more than a "this thing is broken" issue.
