Ayu is an original connection game with simple rules. This game's entry was created a couple of weeks ago. I'm just posting on it in keeping with the custom to announce new games here, and to provide a place to discuss it, if you feel like it.

I will upload a rules file with diagrams shortly, but I think the rules are easy enough to understand even without them.

The Ayu rule sheet, with diagrams, is already available.

Now they're available in Spanish too.

(Ahora también están disponibles en español.)

Ayu can now be played at MindSports (turn based).

An interesting, unexpected hypothetical cycle has been found in Ayu. The game is not hard finite, as I thought, but soft finite.

I've uploaded a sample game in PDF format, with full board pictures for all moves.

I love these sample games you post. I'm going to start doing that I think. Two suggestions:

1. Post an html version somewhere. pdf is kind of annoying.

2. Maybe add some commentary about what's going on with the different moves? Might be too much extra work, but would be very interesting, and would help to orient readers.

It doesn't look like you have your own site to do this on? If you want, I can give you an account on my blog and you can post html versions there.

Ayu is another I still need to get to the table (or virtual table, as it may be). I had a copy available for play at my annual tournament, but it didn't get to the table.

It is well worth playing! Definitely a cool game with some good aha-effects.

Agreed. I would like to play, so I've added it to the ever growing HexHex4 Google Presentation for anyone to play. Please copy the slide first and play on the copy.

I'm so glad that presentation lives on! I contributed something to the community!

[EDIT] to clean it up a little, I just deleted the top few slides that no one ever uses

Yeah. I play there with my older two kids quite a bit. It's really easy to add new games for testing. Shared documents are a great resource for this sort of thing, so thanks for getting the ball rolling with it.

What I like about PDF is that I can put each position on a different page, so that you can comfortably replay the game as on a computer implementation of the game. Can this be done with HTML? Also, what's annoying about PDF?

Yes, good suggestion. I'm not sure my comments could get much beyond the obvious, though.

Thanks!

Note that 9x9 is just an introductory size. 11x11 is challenging, but still probably a bit too small for experienced players, who might want to move on to 13x13. I'm in the middle of my first 13x13 game on MindSports myself.
