Charity BoardGaming Marathon This Sunday in Venice, CA!!
I'm a daily reader here at BGG and have been moved many times by the generosity of this community.
I thought I'd reach out to the BGG community and let everyone know about a boardgaming charity marathon I'm hosting in Venice, CA this Sunday to help raise money for one of my closest friends, Alex Berman, who is currently fighting cancer.
Alex is 33 years old and the father of two young twin boys. Alex is undergoing a very serious bone marrow transplant right now in Seattle (he lives in NYC) and has to be away from his wife and family for four months, minimum. Alex will, of course, also be unable to work during this time, which will put a serious financial strain on his family.
Obviously his medical bills are ASTRONOMICAL, so I'm doing what I can to help ease Alex's financial burden so he can focus on getting healthy and getting back to his wife, boys and job.
The art gallery where we're hosting the event isn't massive -- it holds about 50 people comfortably at tables -- so we're not going to be a big convention or anything, but I'd love to invite anyone in the Los Angeles area who wants to come down and play a whole bunch of board games, eat food, drink beer, have fun, make some new friends and help support my friend in his time of need.
Please check our website for complete details ( http://bermathon.tumblr.com/) -- but the basics are:
• Sunday 1/29 from 10AM-Midnight at Gallery1988: Venice, located at: 214 Pier Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90405 (just east of Main Street).
• $20 entry fee
• Tons of prizes can be won (a full list will be up on the website in the next day or two but expect some cool celebrity signed items, video games, board games, dodger tickets, and other awesome stuff).
• Prizes are won on a "point system" wherein you'll get points for paying the entry fee, points for winning games, points for every hour that you stay and (most importantly) points that can be purchased for cold hard cash.
You can check my profile for a list of games I will have at the event, but others are bringing games as well. I think we'll have a nice little library of games for the day and plenty of people to play them.
If you can come, that'd be greatly appreciated. If you can bring some games that I don't have in my collection that would also be greatly appreciated. If you have a few dollars you want to donate (via our website) that would be very, very appreciated. If you can just spread the word about BERMATHON and our website, that would be very appreciated as well!
We're also looking for anyone who wants to donate prizes to be given away at the event (the more prizes the more money we can generate during the event!)
