I watched about thirty minutes of it last night and it is, definitely, appealing. I don't believe it is an old movie, but it is shot in such a way as to appear as though it is. The protagonist goes to butler school and lives in a village where people are very cautious. They will say things to each other like, "Make sure to put your name on your tooth-brush before something bad happens." The people are very quiet as they live in constant fear of avalanche. Wonderful so far!

Guy Maddin films all look like they are from the 20s or 30s. They are cool and weird. Check out his film Archangel also.

And not for impatient fans of Michael Bay type films.

Finally got around to watching the beginning of Terry Nation's
survivors (from the 70's). Not sure I'll be pushing through,
but it's very good so far.

Oh it is. Very believable too - unlike most
stuff in movies/tv - in terms of the acting.

I remember liking the original Survivors. I wonder if the new version is any good.

If you haven't seen it yet, this episode just made me go wow.

Probably should start with the first one though, for the full effect.

I've been watching them again. They're even better than I remember. One thing I really dig is the fact that there is NO soundtrack or mood music piped in to tell me how to feel.

Didn't notice the lack, but yeah, right off that
earns some serious bonus points.

Whomever directed this was a master.
The little natural things they get
out of the characters - it's all so
damned real.

For some reason the brouhaha over in the wargame forums made me think of this movie, particularly this scene.

Some of us are still watching the thread, or are at least newcomers like me who just found (and are enraptured by) your video reviews.

I know the GotW question period has elapsed, and there's a good chance this question has already been asked in some of the earlier 46 pages of this thread (sorry, I've only read through 7 so far, but I have already been intrigued enough to order a used copy of Merlin's Ring), but I have a question for you:

What are you always drinking in your mug/cup? It seems like you've been sipping on whiskey in a few of your videos, and I was just curious.

Anyway, keep up the great videos, I am really enjoying your style!

The big blue cup is invariably tea. Cheap black tea.

Smaller glasses could be a lot of things. Leftover tea
(whilst the just-brewed cup cools), brandy, fruit juice
are the most likely (not necessarily in any order - different
things at different periods are more likely).

Aah, the 4th Doctor. "My" Doctor. In fact - GEEK ALERT - any Tom Baker `WHO` produced by Philip Hinchcliffe and I`m there.

Every Saturday (after Dickie Davies had finished hosting [the truly dreadful] wrestling) from Jon Pertwee tackling "The Sea Devils" (filmed practically on my doorstep) through to circa, "Image of the Fendahl" and I was sat, rapt, in front of the telly.

Personal favourite WHO = "The Horror of Fang Rock".

....and that`s quite enough honesty from me shake

Wait a minute! Calandale was born of mortal woman? I was operating on the assumption that he was a reification of our collective imaginings.

Happy birthday, dude! (if it is, in fact, your birthday). And thanks for all the vids.

BTW Gregor, I stumbled accross your "Ambush!" video and am now bidding on a copy and watching a couple of others (in case I`m outbid). You guys are gonna make me poor(er).

It's not my birthday.
I'm not the United States.

The woman who raised me claims she found me under a leaf.
