Re: Implementing the Perfect Solution... to counter clipping

The clipper + shipping to FL was $39.96, so I came out $0.04 ahead. The clipper will arrive in ~3 weeks, the new VISA card about the same. The former will be carried back to China in my wife's cousin's luggage, and the latter will be canceled immediately upon receipt.

Hard to argue with Chase Bank paying me $0.04 to try out that counter clipper!

What! They only gave me $30 for the same card application! yuk

I actually plan to use my new card for two purchases prior to cancellation though. shake

Has anyone tried this on counters that were already clipped? I'm curious what the results of that are.

EDIT: I'm specifically wondering what it will do to a counter clipped like the one in this picture.

Anyone tried this thing out yet on counters like the ones in the picture? The results of that will determine if I buy this or not.

Yep, same here... I have the ASLSK#1 armies punched and ready to clip.

I am hoping this tool will work as well with smaller 5/8"(?) counters as it has with some of the larger counters pictured so far in this thread.

Crap. Tried to go to Hobby Lobby to see if they had something similar on the shelf. Found a cheapie, $5 cutter with a 10mm radius. Might be good for self-made playing cards but it's a no-go for counters. (Radius is waaay too large.)

A 1/8" (3mm) radius corner cutter is what I need—like the original post describes. Reckon I'll need to bite the bullet...

Somewhere in this thread is a picture of a 1/2" counter after having this used on it. I really want to see what happens to a 1/2" counter that's already been clipped and then had this product used on it.

EDIT: Found the picture for ya.

Hi Hunga!

Thanks for the note.

We offer the hand held versions in 3mm, 5mm, 10mm, 1/4" and 1/8". The only thing close to the 2mm would be the 1/16" die available in our Lassco corner rounders. They are desktop models with removable dies and capable of cutting up to 7/16" thick stick of paper. It's a lot more money then the 3mm hand held though.

I will ask my manufacturer about the possibility of a 2mm version also. We've been very please with their 3mm model and will consider purchasing a new die for them to make the 2mm. If I get a positive response from them, I'll let you know.

Ordered Tue, got mine Fri. Works great and thanks for the recommendation. Prior to this, I was using a toe-nail clipper, and a clear plastic card case with a filed down corner as a jig.

I also just got mine, a strong recommend. I will say that I can easily see where tired hands will be a problem until it loosens up some. I also recommend using some spare 1/2" counters to work on the finesse of placement so that your sides don't get wobbly.

No more grease issues (that went away after the third clip on the first counter).

[OCD disclaimer]Also, the little bump in the upper right hand corner is from the table surface and not on the counter.[/OCD disclaimer]

Almost done with The Battle for Normandy counters over 2,000 done I did find that my wrist did start to bother me about 400 counters in to the project. Luckly for me I found that I can work the clippers with wrist braces on, they hold my wirsts in a ergonomicly neutral position (like the Swiss). Also as a lefty I have been forced to use tools with my off hand my whole life, so I can switch hands when one gets tired. I hold the clippers upside down to make sure the point is centered properly. I am looking forward to trying a game with bigger counters where that is not as much a problem.I usually clip while watching T.V. with my wife, she is a very tolerant woman! I have so fallen to the dark side, I am not even sure how to rell my friends. Maybe I will tell'em I bought it that way!

Did the other half yesterday evening. One blister got bigger, while the other one was open anyway... cry

But they - the counters... laugh - still look beautiful. And it started to get easier towards the end, so it seems correct that the tool loosens after a couple of hundred counters...

I did too for the first session. She was tolerant enough to ignore the sound, but I'm not sure I can stand her look of slight amusement. blush

I had to order one of these after seeing the results. I wish they made a 1/16" or 3/32" version for the 1/2" counters. Thanks for the pointer.

You know the internet rules: pics or it didn't happen.

Got mine at lunch today. Only clipped one counter and took the pics with my cell since I had to get back to work.

I will complete CC:E this evening when I get home.
I could almost cry for joy, if crying was allowed in wargaming. blush

Count me among the converted. Got mine yesterday and am impressed with the results. I was worried it would cut 1/2 inch counters too much, but I actually like them the best. Even World in Flames aircraft counters (which have the unit info on the corners) look great.

One thing this clipper has made me realize; how few traditional hex and counter wargames I've bought the last few years. Most of the counters I have to clip are informational counters for block wargames. I guess I've made the full conversion to being a blockhead...

Ok you guys finally convinced me, at least for the 5/8 inch counters (and larger). I have become quite adept at trimming counters with scissors but this might have that beat.
Thanks for the heads up

Ack I didn't see the post about the 2mm cutter, darn wonder if I can cancel my order
2mm would be perfect for me

Dagnabit... I just got the same email. I thought I was going to be first with this news.

I think that if the sides on the 2mm cutter hold the 1/2 counter very well, it may be the better item for people with a majority of 1/2 counters...

Argh, and I was just about to cave, too.

Noiseman, when you did those 1/2" counters in your image, were you sliding them all the way in, or were you being careful to not quite slide them in all the way?
