Let the Lord of Chaos rule.

Tried my first game, a 4er with all the decks mixed in, and couldn't stop laughing.

Let me see if I can keep this straight:

0. 15 minutes of blah, reading cards, getting them straight, and concocting mischievous plans.

1. E was about to capture a 2nd treasure and get the win, so I spun him round and round rotated his room.

2. Next turn, E got a little closer, setting up a win for his next turn. So K took a dump in his path slapped a dust storm in his path.

3. That dust storm might still have let E capture the treasure and win the game if he stumbled in the right direction out of it, so I ran to E's base, blocked him off by casting a Create Wall spell between us, then kicked his dog for good measure picked up his treasure.

4. E went the long way round, and went into a corner to defend his own treasure, lying in wait for K.

5. Now I was the one who could win, by sprinting back with E's treasure on my turn with 5+1 Energy. But right before my turn, A flipped me off turned Gravity off, causing us to drop all our items, including treasures. She boosted the spell, making it impossible for us to pick anything up (including treasure) for 4 turns.

6. I decided to go kill one of the other players instead for my 2nd point and the win. I had eaten a wall earlier, so had 17 health and was basically invincible. A had cursed E with Slow Death, so he was slowly withering away (6 health). K was another good option since I had smacked him with 6 damage earlier. I snuck up to K and E, then Created a Door and locked it, so they couldn't get to me (but I could to them!).

7. K ran to my base. Then on her turn, A double-flipped me off turned Gravity back on. I now had to run back and grab E's treasure again (instead of just running back to base), and couldn't win for another turn, ugh! And worse still, K was squatting on top of the first treasure I had captured.

8. Since E had the lowest health, I sealed him into his little corner with Create Wall and imprisoned him there as a pet until I had the attack cards to go finish him off.

9. K took one for the team by trashing my house picking up the treasure on my base so I couldn't win by killing E.

10. This whole round, I giggled maniacally and continuously until it finally came to my turn. I got ready to Pass Through the Wall into the little enclosure I made for E and BLAST him (2 health) into pieces (STEEL CAGE MATCH, no escape!). But K reminded me that if I killed him (2 health), he'd have to drop the treasure on my spot, giving me 2 immediate points (killing a wizard + capturing a treasure) and the win. For the first time in a long while, I was tempted to do something for shits and giggles (climbing into that steel cage with E) instead of going for the instant win.

11. It was a TRAP! I blasted K for 6 damage, but he responded Featherweight to absorb the hit by getting shoved back. And I yelled "NOOOOOOO!" as I drove him, still holding the treasure he stole from my base, further and further from my base (6 spaces away).

12. K went a long way, and E could see K now after he Destroyed Wall to bust out of his cage (nearly blowing himself up in the process; we had to remind him to run back before casting the spell), and tried to murder him for the win, before realizing he could only do 1 damage. And K reflected the damage back anyway. Then K, seeing he could do nothing to stop A from capturing her 2nd treasure, went ahead and killed E (1 health) just because he could. A ran in with her 2nd treasure and won.

A: 2 treasures
K: 1 kill
E (dead): 1 treasure
Me: 0... robbed!

Never trust another wizard that points out that by killing them you will win the game.

So, the impression that I get is that this is the best "SCREW YOU" game since Cosmic Encounter. And I think that means I need to have it.

Why aren't you PLAYING a game?

I accept your challenge - and win (for now)! I already have my own home brew version of this game (and really enjoy it now and again). So I haven't been pushed enough to get the FFG reprise.

Of course, when convention time rolls around, my resolve may weaken. Maybe.

Heh, this post could have been written 25 years ago...

One note about the screwage factor in each game. In Cosmic, it's fairly impersonal, most of it being driven by the Destiny deck and constantly changing game conditions. In Wiz-War, it can get quite a lot more personal, and this can be a turn-off to those who dislike that. The gameplay can be similarly wacky and chaotic, though.

I was just going to win one game and was passing through another mage central square...

DJ's wife surprisingly hit me with her spell out of nowhere, I died and the treasure I was carrying dropped on her base and she won...

oh well it was still 2:1 for me this evening, yayyy!!!

Its a great game. Tonight I actually walled in (Create Wall spell) my treasure (and had the locked door on the other side).

It was almost impossible for him to get to my treasure unless he destroyed the walls. Or unless he used a lock pick spell.

Now that's just a missed opportunity. Your opponent should have been inside, not the treasure. Or even with the treasure, we call that "bait".

"Walling in" an opponent eh? Interesting.
