So a question to all of you folks who have purchased stuff from the marketplace. How do you deal with a seller who drops communication with you after you have paid for an item?

Basically I paid for an item last Friday after really solid communication with the seller. Since the moment I paid I have not received a single reply regarding shipping of my item. No confirmation, no tracking number, not even a "Yeah, I'll get it out this weekend". Now here's the kicker...I can see that the payment went through via PayPal the next day, and seller has logged in each day, AND has even replied to thread posts. I think I'm at the point where I don't feel silly about being nervous now.

Of course for all I know the item has already shipped and could even be sitting on my doorstep at this very moment, but since I have yet to hear a single thing back...who knows.

Anyone else out there have similar stories? The seller has a good track history on the marketplace for being fast and responsive...several great transactions as a matter of fact, but at this point it doesn't really seem to matter how awesome they were in the past.

this has happened to me before, and i've always seen the game show up in a timely fashion. BGG marketplace, as far as sellers are concerned, has a "ship order" button they can click on, which will send an appropriate email, but it takes a bit of effort to go find the right page, and it doesn't offer any other benefit to them, so i expect some folks just ignore that part (i bet i have sometimes).

in short, it's probably fine, and you;ll see your game soon

You paid via PayPal, so you have 45 days from the time of payment to lodge a complaint with them, which assuming this is an issue with them taking $ and delivering nothing... you will be made whole.

The seller has all the burden to prove they mailed you the correct item. Otherwise, your claim with PayPal is a layup.

In short, hang tight for around two weeks. If no response, then just file the claim with PayPal, which will immediately get your seller's attention.

Lastly, leave them poor feedback if they are a bad or poor seller. They may have reasons for not contacting you, although logging in to enjoy BGG and NOT responding to you is not the sign of a good seller.

Good luck and don't worry.

Thanks guys. I'll try not to worry about it too much over the next few days and see how it goes. Again, I have no problem waiting for a game to ship usually. Peopl have busy lives, and stuff happens, but at least have make an effort to try and give a little info. After all, I did my part.

c'moooooonnnnn!!!! we all know the proper procedure here:
1) make PayPal payment
2) wait 5 minutes
3) write half-a-dozen threads on BGG defaming the seller as everything from an unresponsive swindler to a blatant crook

4) receive package

Hopefully you know how it is shipping, USPS, UPS, FEDX and which method which give you a timeframe for when to expect arrival counting the business days not weekends, give or take a day or 2 unless it was overnighted. If you don't see anything in that frame, then wave red flags with the seller and if no satisfaction, Paypal in this case

It seems like this is becoming a trend. I've recently bought a few games off of Ebay and I have not heard from a single one of the sellers after I made payment. I did receive all my items but none of them even sent so much as a note saying they were shipping the item. Seems that part of communication is no longer considered important in the online auction world.

Yeah, seems like communication in general is slipping nowdays. It's actually really frustrating with trades here too. So many trade requests just expire...no decline, no counter offer.

Stating that you did not get a response implies that you asked a question regarding shipping. Did you? If not, and you really want to know, perhaps you could ask.

As far as experiences with sellers here on BGG goes, I have never had a single issue. I've been treated very well, actually. In fact, one time I hadn't even received confirmation of the seller's acceptance of my offer and he already shipped the game!

I'm sure it will all be fine.

Hmmmm and I always thought I was in danger of sending too many emails. As a point of fact I will always add the tracking info to ebay and amazon and mark the item as shipped.

Same here with the BGG, but your right its not very intuitive. I did hear they are working on overhauling the BGG marketplace sometime in the near future.

And as far as sellers on BGG I have never had a problem either.

Unfortunately, the communication the other way is just as bad at times. There have been numerous times when someone has placed an order from me, I have sent back the shipping charges with an order confirmation and details for payment and then I hear nothing more. How long do I wait before I then cancel the order? Generally, I wait a week or so as has been said before, people do get busy. But, would a little note to say "hey, I will get you the payment soon but I still want the game" be asking too much? By the way, most of the time this is "New Users" so I am also assuming they do not know the protocol or how to operate GeekMail. Just one of the hazards of doing business I guess.

This has happened to me twice within the past week, both new users.

One person would not respond to emails at all (needed his zip code) and the other responded, complained about the shipping charge, said he would pay by Monday, and has since disappeared (has not responded to 2 payment reminders).

In the first case, it is easy to cancel the transaction. In the second, since I confirmed the purchase, I have to wait a week. I`m for all giving people a chance and all, but I`d prefer to be able to cancel the transaction sooner at my own discretion. That`s one process I`d like to see changed.

I would think you should try emailing the seller. I generally assume that if I am selling something I will ship it out within three business days (amazon's standard) and I usually don't feel the need to send an email unless it is going to be later than that. Plus if you are shipping it USPS the tracking is a joke anyways so it is not like having the tracking number helps.

Yes, 3 times now. Once on Saturday just to make sure he got the payment OK and to make sure he had the right shipping info, again on Monday to see if I could get a tracking number or at least word when it shipped, and then again yesterday to see if I could again get word on if it had shipped, or an ETA on arrival. No response to any of them.

Again, for all I know the package could be on my doorstep right now...I'm not expecting next day service or anything...no preassumptions of fast shipping at all. I'm just wondering what folks in the past have done to deal wih non repsonsive sellers. Seems like they just wait it out so far.

Strangely enough, I have only been burned once...and it was on Ebay, and the seller was very responsive. Go figure.

Are you even sure you paid for tracking/delivery confirmation? Was it implied/specified in the item description?

Re: Marketplace sellers and communication
Nothing implied as far as tracking info goes which is why I was ok just getting info on when it shipped, or was going to ship. I don't feel the need to track it every step of the way, but it's nice to know it made it out the door, or know when it'll make it out the door.

Again, just basic communication.
