So I'm going along, reading a list, and I want to tip someone. Okay, so far, so good, yeah? So I enter the tip amount and then a screen comes up asking if I want to finalize the transaction and I say "finalize" and then, instead of going back to the list which I was still in the middle of reading thank-you-very-much, I am instead presented with just a screen with a message saying my tip has been sent.

That might be ok if there were a prominent button directly below the confirmation that would take me back from whence I came, but there is not, so I have to renavigate there.

Do I hear a lot of "So what? Big deal? You just click the browser's back button a few times."

Yes, but when you have made a promise to leave a tip for every item posted to a list you created and you end up having to tip 88 people, it really does get annoying. (hence the thread title? b/c I want it to be less of a pain to tip people?)

(My "solution" was to have the list open in one tab and then open each individual new item that needed to be tipped in a new tab and tip it there so that when I was brought to the end-of-the-line "finalized" message I just closed the tab and the list was still there on the first tab. That sped things up a bit, but still felt unsatisfactory.

Also, giving tips isn't the only action that can lead you to a land of no return. For instance, removing an image from your personal gallery will leave you stranded with an "image successfully deleted"-type message, and will NOT return you to your gallery.

I know it's a small issue, but this forum is for people to throw out any sorts of ideas, big or small, regarding how BGG could be improved in their eyes. So that's my two cents for the day.

I assume that you are going to the transfer facility in your GG details under the Geekstuff section of your profile, but remember that if you want to tip a particular contribution, all you need to do is click the GG icon between the green thumb and red X and you can tip without leaving the page.

There is a road, no simple highway, between the dawn and the dark of night, and if you go no one may follow, that path is for your steps alone. Ripple in still water, when there is no pebble tossed, nor wind to blow.

I think it is a fair suggestion. I often want to tip users enough to buy a microbadge 8 or an avatar 30 and do not have an option but to be taken out of the thread and have to navigate back to the thread to the point where I was reading.

Usually using middle mouse button over the "other amount with message" works, or whatever your browser uses for open in new tab.

Do a 5, 1, and a 1. Or a 5 six times. That way you don't have to leave the page.

I agree with the original poster that it should take you back to where you came from, but yes, Shift+Click on "other amount with message" will open the tipping in a new tab, allowing you to just close that tab when you're done and go back to your browsing in the original tab.

Ok, thanks. That is what I have been doing (tipping "other amount" but not pressing down any special keys). I was definitely not doing some weird thing rerouting to my geekstuff page.

Which only works if you tip one of the pre-determined tip amounts. The "Other Amount With Message" options takes you through multiple pages and then not back to the original thread, just as Amanda has described.

One must left click on the tip icon, then middle click on the "Other Amount" selection. It's a clunky and unintuitive mechanism, which most people won't figure out.

And if I want to tip 3.8, I only have to do 1, and 1, and 1, and 0.25, and 0.25, and 0.25, and 0.05. And I don't have to leave the page! No, but it's far more annoying and inconvenient than if I had.

I'm with Amanda. The point isn't whether it's possible, through some unintuitive or cumbersome process, to tip a non-standard amount without getting lost and then having to navigate back three pages. The point is that it shouldn't be necessary. The intuitive, obvious thing to do rewards the tipper by bouncing them from the thread, and it doesn't have to. There's no reason the "tip amount" input box cannot appear in the same pop-up window as the pre-determined values.

Tipping is good. Tipping shouldn't be annoying for no good reason.

Agreed, it could be easier, but seriously, why would you pick 3.8 as the number if you knew it was that many clicks? Just pick a nice easy number like 1 or 5.

Ok, I just checked: this is 'fixed' in the redesign. Using "other amount with message" function pops up an inline box without going to another page.

Ok, this may be a stupid question as I'm sure there's been plenty of news about this I've missed, but when will the redesign get fully implemented?

Some people have certain sort-of sentimental attachments to specific numbers. Of all the tips I have give, I'd say close to 90% of them were for 0.42 It just personalizes the gift and lets you express yourself a tiny wee bit at the same time.

I don't know. When it's done? There are about 1K users actively bug checking it right now and the developers are feverishly working it.

Because the person I'm tipping wants an avatar on the No Geek Left Behind thread and her current balance is 26.2.

Sounds like it's a moot point (hopefully soon). I guess if I have to choose between time and money, I would give up the money and just send 5gg. I'm sure they'll be able to find some use for the other 1.8 (like clicking a bunch of times to give 1.8gg to someone else that needs an avatar )

The process appears to be different in the redesign and less of an issue. So perhaps they've already addressed it.
