The quality of a reclip would depend mostly on how heavily it was clipped in the first place. I'm sure I've reclipped a game already - but I can't remember which one!

Since I am 80% done with CC:M, I will take a break from it and re-clip a few of my Ambush! 1/2" counters to see how they turn out. Give me a few minutes...

Oh, also, did you know that there is a "Kneel before Zod!" microbadge? It is on my mb wantlist. Sad that I have an mb wantlist. shake

This turns out to be the deal for me.

The BAZ in the center is reclipped. The surrounding BAZ, SMG, MMG and Satchel Charge are not yet reclipped.

The lower left of the SMG is how the reclipped BAZ looked before reclippage.
The upper left of the SC...
The upper right of the MMG...
The lower right of the Baz...

So, I could feel that additional material was being removed on all the reclips except the lower left which looked like the lower left of the SMG.

The reclipped Baz looks better now but the not-yet-reclipped Baz looks almost the same. That says nothing good about my prior counter clipping quality control.

I will eventually be getting the 2mm radius clipper and will wait on further 1/2 inch reclipping until that time. shake

I am not sure this is about an additional mm in the right place, or getting the multiplier to work for you. This is about the esthetics of perfectly rounded edges, In getting ready to pull the trigger, it is about turning the clipper over so that the opening can be seen. It is about being careful to make sure that it doesn't slide around and skew the counter radius.

Make sure that you aren't questioned about having slid it all the way in, or being careful to not quite slide it all the way in.

This is about buying gadgets for the wife and coming - yeah, coming home at lunch to play with the toys and then crying for the joy of it. All this for forty bucks after shipping. And it doesn't even use batteries.

Have some ice cream. It's delicious.

Another convert here for the Oregon Laminations clipper. I just finished clipping the big, glossy FIELD COMMANDER: NAPOLEON counters and they look absolutely gorgeous, with clean uniform cuts and not a rough edge or hanging bit in sight.

I first tried the Crop-a-Dile, thinking I would save a few bucks -- big mistake. The Crop-a-Dile does not deliver a consistent, clean cut, and you often have to clean up the mess with scissors (sometimes leaving you with a misshapen counter).

The Oregon Laminations clipper is much heavier and more solid, and does require more pressure when you cut, but the results are fantastic -- every corner looks like a professional cut.

A few notes:

- Lining up the counter properly is important. You want to hold the clipper 'upside down' so you can see that the counter edge is lined up perfectly, as in this screenshot from Persona Non Grata:

usrlocal wrote:

Smoke 'em if you got 'em:

- Also, insert the counter 'upside down' (unlike the image above) so that the bottom is facing you, this way the cut will go 'with the grain'.

- Press firmly without hesitation to get a good clean cut. (And you will have to press firmly, this thing takes some muscle to use -- your hands will get sore after a few hundred counters.)

As to size, I think it works well on 1/2" counters, but others might think they come out a bit too rounded.

As noted by others, really thick counters will not fit into the Oregon Laminations, but they will fit into the Crop-a-Dile, which handles any thickness. So you might need an alternative for some of your games, but most counters should fit without a problem.

Overall, I can't rate this product highly enough. If you clip counters, this is a must buy. If you have mostly smaller counters, you might want to wait for the smaller size -- check the images of clipped 1/2" counters in this thread to get a sense for how rounded them come out.

Yeah I think it is personal preference on the 2mm vs 3mm. I'd want to see what a 1/2" counter looked like clipped. I've recently started clipping my ASLSK#1 1/2" counters and I think they look great with the 3mm. They look just like the ones already pictured. Yes, they are more rounded which some may not like but I thought they looked crisp and neat done with the 3mm. As others point out...flip the clipper over so you can see the cutting die. Make sure the counter corner is centered...then clip. Also, as others said...with the clipper flipped (so you can see the die as it cuts) position the counter so that you are looking at its bottom. That way the die is cutting with the grain...as it was during original production of the counter sheet. I've had better results. Not that they were bad the other way...just better.

I was worried about using the 3mm radius with 1/2" counters, but I've now clipped so many (I may be developing a mania...) I'm perfectly happy with it. I don't even have to look any more, I can 'feel' it into place. I'm also not so sure I want a 2mm radius version... it just wouldn't look very... rounded...

The one and only game I've found a problem with so far is Lock 'n Load: Heroes of the Blitzkrieg - the target acquisition counters have an identifying letter right up in the top left corner that's nicked by the corner rounder. Still readable, but definitely some of the print is lost.

Yeah, I've had this with a few counters as well. Still very readable, so it won't be a problem at all.

Admittedly, I have been seized by the novelty and awesomeness that is radius counter clipping. surprise

I have also been a microbadge fan since I found BGG.

This thread inspired me to find the author of the original microbage for counter clipping (mb, author=n/a in the mb database?) and request another, but none was listed.

So I modified it to this one which was approved just this morning: mb (check out the mouseover text.)

I clipped counters before solely for utility. Now it serves, for me, both untility and aesthetics.

Hey gang,

I did a little poking around online. . .how's $29.99 and free shipping strike ya?

BGG won't let me post a link to eBay it seems, but if you go there and search it's easy to find. I only just ordered it, but the seller has a 100% positive feedback rating, with nearly 500 ratings, so I assume they're respectable. They have a few more available.

Mine arrived today.

I was a bit surprised at how fast I could clip a counter with it. Going at a modest pace, I was doing 8 counters a minute.

I used this on an old copy of Squad Leader to see how it'd work on 1/2" counters, and I'm not too happy. They look okay, I suppose - although I'd prefer a smaller radius. What I wasn't too happy about was the lose of function. With so much of the corner gone, its more difficult to square up a stack of counters. I'll be holding off on using this on any more games with 1/2" counters.

5/8" and up look fantastic though.

Looks like we're going to have some 2mm radius corner rounders in approximately 90 days. Yes, we did listen and will let you know via email when they arrive.
Thank you

This looks like it might be the answer to the 1/2" counter issue of looking too "round."
