So when the new guilds in Leaders came out, it was fairly obvious that the card material was different from the 1st Edition cards, and without sleeves, it's very obvious which cards are the new cards and which are old. Because of the Age III replacement decks, this turned out to not be an issue, since the entire Age III was replaced with the new card material.

However, in Cities there will be new Age I and Age II cards, so there will be the same problem that it will be easy to tell which cards are the new Cities cards during these Ages.

Other than buying a new copy of the game, will there be any sort of deck exchange program to replace the original 1st edition decks with ones with the new card stock?

Good question.

Got my Age III and wonder cards replaced last week.
However the new wonder also cards differ from the rome card.
So now I have wonder cards in 3 different colors.

Why did they change the color in the first place?
Just a (huge) misprint?

I'll wait to see the printed cards first. If they differ so much that are recognizable and they don't offer an upgrade path for 1st ed owners, i'll buy another game instead of this expansion (or any future ones). Simple!

I am not going to buy the base game again...

I got the third edition and the background coloring of the wonder cards is also different from Rome and Brussels.

That's why I created small chips for each wonder with an A and a B side which we draw out of a bag to determine who plays which wonder. It really works fine and wasn't too much of work, maybe 1-2 hours total.

The wonder cards are not a real problem as you can shuffle them under the table (meaning without looking at them) and deal one to each player randomly.

although it might be more fun to fan the cards and allow someone to choose, this method is just as random
