Like it says in the subject line - Is there a way to not display them like there is with the other badges?

Wouldn't that kind of defeat the purpose of having them on the site, if you can't tell if a user is a non-patron or just disabled the icons? (From the bgg owner perspective that is, not that I personally care if someone has them or not.)

On the other hand I doubt many would remove them if they could, so it might be worth having that feature to make those few happy.

Actually, what is the purpose? Aldie has repeatedly stated that it doesn't matter whether or not a user pays the patron fee; and that no user should be seen or treated differently based on whether they did or not; so why display it?

If you're saying you don't want to see others' badges, there's always a way. (Although that way may involve a Greasemonkey script.)

(I flagged this as wrong-forum earlier; did you mean to post it in HOWTO BGG?)

No, I'm saying I don't want to display my own.

What I did is set up a couple of "socket" accounts to contribute from them. I believe one is traceable, the other not so much.

Ah ha ha. This thread is to make a statement or something, then, not to get help with an honest question about how to do something on BGG? Good luck with whatever you're up to.

The purpose is he doesn´t want to display his own patron badges.

But after reading some of the answers and questions which have appeared in this thread it seems that you all could think that he´s preparing some kind of terrorist attack against all the patron badges in the boargamegek...

TAKE IT EASY, friends.

shake Nope! I'd already inquired upon such back in 2010 and was largely 'derided' on that then. Good 'thang' at least ONE of those during such was 'mature enough' on responses during the entire proceedings. Plenty of "psychophants" as well, if I recollect CORRECT! whistle

There is not currently a way to hide the patron badge built into BGG. If you're simply wanting to not see your own badge while browsing the site, a simple script will do the job. However, if you're wanting other users to not be able to see your badge, then you'd have to suggest that feature in BGG Suggestions, though I doubt they'll approve it as some contests etc rely on being able to quickly tell if a user is a patron or not.

Or do it the other way around - create a second account for donating. Of course if you want to reap the benefits of donating, such as subscription history or ad block, you'll have to do it from your own account.

Yeah, this is the way to do it. Transferring all of your info (collection info, etc...) to a new account will be highly annoying and manually intensive, but if the end result of not displaying patron badges is worth it to you then go for it.

YOURS here NOW, on becoming the 2nd 'nominee' as such too? Actually, "kuhrusty" is pretty much aware of a 'situation' that occurred recently, in which someone made disparaging 'remarks' upon Latin/Latino-based 'cultures' in general. I did not read nor see that myself, while what I'm explaining here then, were an objective 'overview'-(mine, at least) of the entire matter due to this. Many of those that had been offended, or felt likewise on behalf of yet another, then believe the BGG Admins didn't "do enough" toward rectifying the situation as it arose at the time, while they DID eventually, so, "Kudos" upon this to them. The O.P. must surely have thought that BGG wasn't appearing on being "supportive" enough as a result from the matter at hand, and hence his no longer wishing to reciprocate as well, and being SEEN as that then, through the 'Patronage' status indicators.

Yeah, there it "is" of which I'm "up to speed" upon as it "were", since 'moi' too does KNOW that mutual 'feeling' as well, although I had much more 'concerns' in addition to such, and far less 'supporters' in general, overall considerations.

But you can't transfer your "contributions" statistics.

If your former identity added 100 new games to the site and 500 images, your new identity can't take credit for any of them.

Of course if you're trying to prevent people from knowing you've contributed to the site generally instead of just monetarily I guess that would be a benefit!

1) In theory, a person who donate enough to get a patron badge but decided to hide would still be supporting the site financially, so it wouldn't defeat the purpose in that case

2) "forcing" us to display them could be a way of advertising that such an option is available. If people donate due to seeing such patron badges from other users, all the better. I know aldie and company mentioned that BGG will always be free, but I'm sure like any other similar site, $$ to the site will always be put to good use.

3) A subtle way of guilting others to donate

4) patron badges clutters the space around the user area of each post.

It is also quite possible that you regret your decision to have supported BoardGameGeek, and though you still use it, you no longer wish to be identified as someone that supports this website.
