Silence will Fall is another expansion for the Doctor Who Solitaire Game. There have been a lot of expansions for this solo game and as a player you may think when the well may dry up. Clearly not for some time though as this expansion is by far the largest to come out so far!
The Expansion starts as usual informing the players what characters and equipment they start off with but also introduces two new fascinating concepts, that of 'Fate' and 'Imposter'. Of these of course Fate is the most intruiging new concept, this new rule in my opinion brilliantly captures the concepts of 'Fixed Points' in time and the Doctor trying to ignore, change his own destiny in the series. This could have been a nightmare to play but it's all explained in the section me 70 and without giving too much away if you do incur any 'Fate Points' there are penalties for ignoring them. Trying to cheat your Fate however gives a new element to the game.
The locations are well thought out and many are from the series. More importantly so are the monsters. The Silence have been written exactly. I can only imagine the absolute nightmare Simon must have faced in trying to write up The SIlence. How can you describe an Enemy and write up Actions for them when your characters forget they even saw them? Luckily the game mechanics are flexible enough to fit even this convoluted Enemy into play.
Watching the 2011 series of Dr Who I found the episodes with 'The Gangers' some of the most boring, yet here in the game even they seem interesting! here's also the chance at duplicating your own characters like what happened in the series! To all fellow geeks this should raise a few goose bumps in excitement!
Also included in the expansion are rules for 'The Impossible Astronaut' and even nice little side rules like 'Alien Weather'.
And finally if all this wasn't enough we have some of the more fascinating minor character from the 2011 series to encounter. President Nixon, Madame Vastra and oh someone called Adolf Hitler?
My advice is if you are familiar with the Dr Who Solitaire Game then download this and start playing as it'll soon get your creative juices flowing. it may be too much for any players who are only just starting to get into the game but for experienced players it's a must have!
