I've come to the decision that I have too many wargames (though not as many as some avid collectors), and am thinking of thinning the herd. When it comes to games on WW1, all I have are GMT's Great War in Europe: Deluxe Edition and a couple of games from SPW's Der Weltkreig Series (Western Front: 1914-1918 and Serbia/Romania). Part of me says to sell off one or the other.

I'm thinking of keeping the SPW game since it has a smaller rules set, and other than the possibly garish map, has smaller scenarios that can be played. I'm only 45, but I gotta admit that I've been losing patience with digesting complicated rules, or at least rules with tons of exceptions, which is why GWIE may go on the block.

What does everyone here think? If you had to keep one, which would it be:

Looking at your collection what I think you should do is keep both of these games and give me your copies of Army Group North and Center, this is a completely unbiased view!

I have them both and have played both. I'm also keeping both. I voted for Der Weltkrieg Series. This is the premier operational World War 1 game system out there IMO.

I just want to say, God, on behalf of all of us thank you for all of the good things we do in your name, like charity and forgiveness. That’s an idea we would never come up with. That’s for sure. You know that better than anybody.

The better question is "should I sell The Great War in Europe: Deluxe Edition since I now have Storm of Steel".

If Storm of Steel had a Vassal module it would be a no brained decision ...

Especially if you want to devote a good chunk of your gaming table to the all-important Northern Finnish front, or the epic WWI battles around Moscow and the Volga. Some bizarre design choices in that game.

Another vote for Der Weltkrieg here. It covers the same ground as GWiE, but unlike the latter, it actually does a good job of simulating WWI.

Keep Great War in Europe. Send me the Der Weltkrieg games...I've been thinking about getting into that series for some time.

I have both (still learning DWS by-the-way), but I would keep DWS.

Although GWIE is a fun and fast game to play, it has certain flaws and very limited scenario's. (Only the grand campaign with all 3 maps is worth playing).
DWS has a big range possibilities, which makes for a game that just get played more often.

SoS on the other hand should be mailed to Cuba.laugh

Cheers, Haring

Thanks for the replies! Looks like DWS is the way to go.

And you'll get AGC and AGN from me when you pry them from my dead, cold fingers!
