100% Rallye

100% Rallye
This was only my second play of this and I finally had a chance to play with the time attacks, outstanding. Now, I really want to play this more and I'm eager to check out Rallyman: Dirt.


First Leg Times:
Anthony- 2:50 (Anthony showed his confidence from winning the first race.)
Rick- 3:29
Brian L- 3:51
Matt- 4:11 (I was first to take off in this leg and struggled most of the way.)

Second Leg Times: The lineup to take off from each new leg is calculated from the total of all previous times. In this leg Anthony took off first.

Rick- 4:48 (Total Time- 8:17)
Matt- 5:27 (Total Time- 9:28)
Anthony- 6:36 (Total Time- 9:26) (over confidence doomed you.)
Brian L- 7:22 (Total Time- 11:13)

Third Leg Times: Rick was the front runner and took off first.

Brian- 2:04 (Holy Moses Brian.....I think your learning how to drive a race car.)
Matt- 3:02
Rick- 3:57
Anthony- 3:57

Checkered Flag Results

1st- Rick (Race Time-12:16)(Congrats Rick on the Rally Cup.)
2nd- Matt (Race Time-12:30)(I could have and should have pushed it a little harder on the third leg. I race it perfectly and at the same time played conservatively, dang.)
3rd- Brian L (Race Time- 13:17)(Good Comeback To Beat Anthony.)
4th- Anthony (Race Time- 13:23)(hahahaha)(This was Anthony's first experience racing and we couldn't let him win two.)

Rallyman jumped up quite a bit in my Top Racing Games with the use of time attacks:

I'm glad you enjoyed the game. I am enamored with it as well. I am however NOT thrilled with Time Attack. It is too easy to use the Time Attack method in two gamey ways.

1. When rolling only a few dice you can use Time Attack to minimize the chances of a loss of control. Then use the second markers to avoid later catastrophe. I know this is what the Time Attack is for but it seems unnecessarily gamey.

2. When gearing down close to gear 1, you can use a Time Attack and even if you lose control you will only suffer a minute penalty (vs 50 seconds for a gear 1) and less chance of a side of road damage (than higher gear cards).

Both maneuvers would be smart but as I said too gamey for my tastes. Perhaps some changes, i.e. no second markers awarded on unsuccessful time attack attempts resulting in loss of control and on successful attempts only award second markers for no 'hazard' die rolls.

Just my $0.02 so I'm glad you enjoy Time Attacks, they are just not for me with the current rules.

When you play at a highly competitive level, this becomes less of an issue.

You'll start trying to do time attacks in riskier situations, such as when going over bumps or when doing a double downshift on dirt or snow. When you and a friend are only a few seconds apart going into the third stage of your race, you will find yourself trying to make up time everywhere you can

As for time attacking when going from fifth gear down to first, well two things:

1) Very rarely should you be ending up in first gear. It's almost always faster not to end up in first gear.
2) It's just smart driving. I am much more apt to push my luck when there is grass on both sides of the track than in a mountain pass. Wouldn't you be more likely to push your car when it's going 20 mph as opposed to 100 mph in a narrow, rock-lined pass?
