If you were an evil genius and had all the resources and minions you had, what cool weapons or crazy machines would you design for world domination...?

Need some fresh ideas for my game, any feedback would be awesome, thanks guys!

The Road goes ever on and on Down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, And I must follow, if I can, Pursuing it with eager feet, Until it joins some larger way Where many paths and errands meet.

Is the evil genius supporting a military, terrorist group or do they have their own private army?

Any particular time period or technology level?

I've found some of the best ideas come from the Cold War R&D Labs, it is absolutely amazing some of the concepts the Soviets and the United States were working on during the few decades of the Cold War.

Depends on what kind of scale you are going for the weapon, are you looking for the ultimate doomsday weapon? Or a bunch of different weapons that can be deployed at once?

That's just C4-on-a-crossbow.

Yeah, that's a good question.

Is it small scale ("I want something that would make me a great shoplifter?" ... so a device that demagnetizes would suffice)

Or larger scale ("I want to hold entire nations as hostage")

On the other hand, there are concepts that could work for both ...

Invisibility

"X-Ray" vision ... not the way we know it today, but the way we thought it should work ... you know ... "Superman can see the color of your underwear" kind of thing.

Phase-thru-Matter ... like X-Men's Shadowcat.

In this day of digital information, I would build my power by controlling computers and Internet access. I would devote my evil genuis to writing hacker worm programs, digital information siphons, and seemingly-legit online databases that garner data from people across the globe.

But if we're talking 15+ years ago, I'd probably want really good forging technology, so that I could create very passable fake bills, or paintings practically identical to the originals. Also sharks with lasers.

Lets say its the near future and it could vary form a world dominating death ray, a scare of zombie gas or just laser guns for your personal army.

Re: What Cool Inventions Would You Make?
Its super evil inventions to help your evil army in the assault on the world...

Weapons that weaken or terrify the world.
Weapons that help you dominate the world.
Super powered maybe evan otherworldly or sci-fi technology/weapons.

Well Evil Armies just happen to be my area of expertise 

I spent 6 years supporting Red Teams for Wargames

You should take a look at Disruptive Technologies

“A disruptive technology or disruptive innovation is an innovation that helps create a new market and value network, and eventually goes on to disrupt an existing market and value network (over a few years or decades), displacing an earlier technology”

Generally applied to the technology market but certainly something to consider as an evil scientist, what existing technology or technologies in development could be used in ways they were not originally designed for in order to achieve your evil means.

For instance Radio Control Airplanes, harmless enough, plentiful in the hobbyist community, but put them in the hands of your Evil lab techniques and there are a wide range of things you can do with them, turning them into flying bombs, use them for surveillance, to transmit mind control messages, all kinds of stuff.

Another place to start is the military research labs and their forecasts for the next 20-25 years. You can see some of the things that are in development and come up with your own evil versions

http://csat.au.af.mil/2025/qwiklook.pdf

Nuclear Weapons, Chemical Weapons, Biological Weapons, Genetic Engineering, Genetically tailored viruses or diseases, “Cyber” Weapons, unmanned weapons, smart weapons are hot topics now and will continue to be so over the next 20 years.

If you look at advances over the last 20 years and apply them to the next 20 you can come up with all kinds of cool stuff.

When the smart phones today have more processing power and capabilities than mainframes did in the 80s, just think of what they will be able to do in the next 10 years, combine that with say radio controlled robotic equipment and you could probably come up with some cool weapons or at least something to terrorize the general populace with.

The evil weapons don’t necessarily need to be destructive in nature either, the terror effect they cause could be enough to achieve the goals you want.

It will depend on how you’re going to structure the game, is the goal to develop the weapons first, or have the weapons and then achieve some kind of victory points

I have thought at length about future military hardware, so if I had a near-future, unlimited budget evil army, I'd have to equip the following items:

Artillery: No ground based artillery at all. I'd have only kill-sats. Either ion or other energy weapons, kinetic weapons (Artificial meteorites, most likely launched via Gauss Rifles) or missiles. Energy for accurate strikes, Kinetic for area effect, Missiles for moving targets and defense of other kill-sats in orbit.

Aircraft: Several types, including Aerospace fighters (capable of fighting in or out of atmosphere), Bombers (Stealth and very fast), Attack (localized ground attack, like say an A10..."low and slow") and of course Interceptors (Ultra fast air-to-air planes.)

Aircraft Carriers: Of course the surface ships would be one kind, but also Submersible Carriers and Flying Carriers as either a dirigible or an airplane, are an essential part of an evil genius' arsenal. There have been real ones, and tons of them in fiction. Another carrier idea I like is basically a plane that does a zero-length-launch from a truck or another land-based vehicle, so it doesn't require an airfield.

Surface Warships and Submarines: Nothing too unconventional here, except I'd make heavy use of guided missile cruisers and attack submarines. SAMs, Exocet, Tomahawk, and even ballistic missiles are your friend.

Landships and airships: Evil Geniuses love weird, impractical hardware, and land vehicles the size of battleships are among them. Imposing and demoralizing, these large, multi-weapon behemoths rule the battlefield, even if they don't go very fast or over very rough terrain. Think mutliple turrets, deployable fighters, and guided missiles aplenty, and even some troop landing ability. Aircraft of this size are also fun, especially Zeppelins and Helicopters that can hover over their enemies.

Armored Fighting Vehicles: There's the standard tank, of course, but so many new weapons: missile and rocket launchers (A la MLRS), Big frickin' guns, multiple-gun turrets and of course, alternate style guns: Gauss rifles and railguns are favorites, as are PPCs and big lasers. The Alacorn is a great example of a future-tech tank: 3 gauss rifles on a single turret.
Yet another wonderfully impractical solution to armored fighting vehicles are bipedal or multi-legged Battlemechs, armed with everything you can think of, even big 'ol hatchets!

Infantry weapons: Infantry can be deployed in low-grade body armor, high-tech powered combat suits (which can be anything from a spacesuit with motor-assist to a small Battlemech), and can carry handheld lasers, gyrojet cannons, superposed load weapons, rocket launchers, gauss rifles, and railguns.

Corbomite Plus.

Rather than simply sending back equal force to ensure mutual destruction, as in Star Trek, the technology would take control of any incoming projectile (fired or flight-controlled) and enable the user to return the projectile at its sender or elsewhere. The user of this device, if being fired upon, would no longer need their own ammo!

A personal-sized device could fit in a pocket or on a wrist, and protect the individual. A larger device could protect an encampment or an attack vessel.

Oh, to take a page from Doctor Who, you could create a device that emits a pulse signal exciting all copper molecules in the vicinity, causing anything made of copper to expand. Thus, most weapons would be unable to fire--the copper bullet casings would be jammed inside the gun!

Then you just have to create laser technology, or use weapons that do not require copper bullet casings.

A massive sonic weapon that could vibrate an entire city full of people's clothes at just the right frequency to tickle them into helplessness.

A slime that reduces the coefficient of friction of anything it touches to near-zero.

A genetically engineered race of psychic mimes who are able to actually manifest whatever they are miming.

An army of flying nano-bots who drive an entire city crazy by constantly humming, "Istanbul, Not Constantinople" in their ears.

If I was that evil villian, Id have to have one of those Exo suits the military had been workin on.

Id also have a nano-sword . like a light saber that, when powered on, the nano-mites can make any size sword.

im into back pack hang- gliders with pop out wings like Batman or something. cant wait to see how this all unfolds....great idea.

I'll read the ion reply next.
