I just saw a couple comments from a user with an empty user name, e.g.:

http://boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/2229?commentid=2784510#com...
http://boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/5910?commentid=2784505#com...

So of course there's no way to click to see their profile, and trying to manually go to the URL of the profile of the user via http://boardgamegeek.com/user/ gives "Error: User does not exist." ...

ASL ... yes, this is my Desert Island Game. If I have to give up all my 3000+ games and only allowed to keep one, this would be it. This bloody game stood the test of time. Around for more than 25 years - simply the best.

Probably a deleted user?

I don't think it is a deleted user - I've seen him/her post before without a username. And I think deleted users show up as "Deleted User" or something if they chose to leave their contributions in place.

You can seemingly get to an empty gallery page, but from there if you try to get to the main profile it redirects to a different user. And you can subscribe to the user too.

I wonder if they've got some weird character in their username that is not handled properly?

I was hoping to be clever and do a "whois" lookup on the website that appears in both of those comments, but the only contact that shows up is domainsbyproxy, whose tagline is "Your identity is nobody's business but ours." Cute.

Even more mysterious is the fact that the links in the drop-down menu don't list a userid...

It appears to be a deleted user. I tipped him a penny and it shows up in my GG given list as deleted user (though that might just be catch all text).

What's odd is that this deleted user, with no user_id still seems to have their supporter badges associated with them.

It's a bug with our spammer deleter - he should be gone now.

Cool, I wondered if it had to do with deleting a spammer due to the strange link included in their post, but I didn't want to accuse them of spamming since the game-related content of the posts was actually reasonably plausible. It's sometimes creepy how convincingly the spammers pass a Turing test... :/

Despite your hope, there is not even any inherent symbolism; gravity is simply a coincidence.

Pedantic, but: they are human, and I'd expect them to be able to pass an actual Turing test. What you're proposing is something somewhat different, I think: given a battery of human judges, post spam but have them consider it non-spam content ... is it spam if no one considers it spam?

Not necessarily. Forum spambots exist, and I've seen plenty of spam forum posts which I really doubt were consciously made by a human instead of a spambot.

But in any case I was intentionally using "Turing test" with ambiguous irony to insult the intelligence of spammers.
