First, here's the code:
59N2BJ

And the link:
http://www.aa.com/group

We've never used one of these before so bear with us if there are a few hiccups. Here's what I'm told.

This code is good for 5% off the lowest published fare at the time of booking (don't know about restricted / unrestricted, etc.).

We set it up for 150 reservations, having no idea yet how many of you will take advantage of it. If you try to use it and it doesn't work, let me know and I can try to get more added.

It should work for all travel - domestic and international.

The tickets can also be transferred - for $150 you can change the name on the ticket (i.e. sell it to someone else if your plans have to change).

I'm seeing prices about 5% less than Travelocity. Not booking yet, so can't positively confirm.

That could be a tax and fees difference. I usually find the best price on Travelocity, book to the point of paying, then go to the airline site and do the same. That's often the only way to really see the best price.

Note my use of weasel words like "could" and "often" since the way sites display prices for airline tickets seem to always be changing shake

I've also been tracking AA prices for the last week or so. For travel from Tallahassee to DFW non-stop, they have varied from about $365 to around $440.

Buying airline tickets should be listed on BGG as a press-your-luck game.

Yeah, the prices at the moment seem outrageously high. The conventional wisdom is that booking your trip 2 months out gets you the best price.

Agreed... one in which the WHAMMY often gets ya!

BGG.con is still eight months away... I feel I can wait until July or August to book my flight. I wouldn't go beyond the USA Labor Day weekend (31 Aug - 3 Sep) though. People flying in for only Fri-Sun need to check the college football (not to be confused with what is called "football" everywhere outside the USA and Canada) schedules - the weekend before the USA Thanksgiving features a number of major rivalries for which alumni often travel long distances to watch (and party).

I've had good luck with June.

Which is utterly silly -- here I am ready and willing to give the airline my money, but I want to wait and sit on my money for 3 months to get a better price.

Yeah, I know all about the prediction game and maximizing per-seat revenue, but it still just feels wrong to have to play this guessing game.

Nah, there's no major college program in Dallas. What you have to worry about is a Cowboys home game. The NFL will release that schedule in mid-April.

I found a fare I was willing to pay and booked my flight. BGG.Con is etched on my calendar and now I (im)patiently await Chris' September wargamer planning geeklist for BGG.Con 2012.

Found a good rate and booked my tickets as well. 3 hour flight for me and my wife from Reno. We plan to get there a few days early and visit the city.

After flying on points the past three cons with stopovers and a long day, I just splurged to buy a seat on the nice 4 hour non-stop flight to Dallas.

I don't much like Bing, but they (Microsoft) bought the brilliant startup Farecast and it's available here: http://www.bing.com/travel/

This advises you about the historical trend on fares and can also show you cheaper flights right around your specified times.

Proving, though, that it might be too early to sensibly book, it's actually too early for that site to reliably provide fare predictions... they need to be within six months of the travel dates to be able to analyze the data with acceptable precision.

I'll probably buy our tickets in August or September, depending on my then-current assessment of the risk that we'll have to cancel our trip.

I'm unfamiliar with this concept of "non-stop flight". Can you explain?

Flying out of Ottawa is just brutal, nothing is direct. Not even Disney World. shake

I can understand that. From Reno the only stops that have no in the middle layovers are Los Angeles, Dallas, and Phoenix. Anywhere farther and there are a multitude of stops along the way.

"non-stop flight"= No layovers Just point A to point B

I am trying to not have to do those anymore.

Just picked up two tickets from Buffalo to Dallas - 1 stop but under 5 and a half hour flight time - for $276/person including tax! It was weird though because when I was looking from Tuesday till Sunday both flights were more and then did Tuesday till Monday and they both got cheaper. Thank you Expedia/Delta.

From NYC, American is still the best deal - got my tickets for an only slightly crippling $368 the other day. The prices seem to be trending downward, though.

booked yesterday through Travelocity. It was cheaper than with the code (but only 1$ or so).
BTW, if someone is ok to arrive late on Tue, Spirit offers non-stop MCO-DFW for 59$ (no, that's no typo). Anything else is 360+ for the roundtrip.

Well, ideally, the plane doesn't stop in flight (*cymbal crash*).

It's Airline jargon.. argh!

Non-Stop (also Direct) - City A to City B with no other stops in between.

The rest of 'em... City A to City B via Cities X, Y and Z.

That's how you can get two flights from NYC to LA, at very different prices and VERY different durations, with one taking 4 hours and the other taking 12.

Booked two of us on American Airlines non-stops from Seattle to DFW Tuesday - Sunday. Total was $685.40. Itineraries with one or two stops were MORE expensive... twist my arm or something. LOL The Sunday night plane had less than 10 empty seats in coach.

Just booked from Las Vegas to Dallas, Tuesday - Sunday. $313 with the discount code and seat selection. Not many seats left. I think I grabbed the last aisle seat on the flight to Dallas, and one of the last 4 on the flight home.
