Cyclades just was delivered to the house. Guess we traded for this one, lol. I remember last year I put it on my wish list after I read a post about a gentleman that started a Greek hotel especially for fans of board games. Looks like Curt nixed the vacation but got me the game instead. Oh well, lol

for those interested here is the post about Alea Apartments:

Wow! Isn't that just so interesting! And beautiful! I hope it's going well for them.

I have always wondered about Cyclades. Let us know what you think after you've had a chance to play. Maybe next year you'll get to Greece...

I'm still in that Honeymoon phase of my first year in the hobby. May my spending spree stop sometime soon before I go bankrupt.......

Game day after game day, my friends keep introducing me to AWESOME games...Here are some of my latest orders:
Fearsome Floors - I can't believe how fun this game is. I had to run out and buy it.
Blood Bowl: Team Manager – The Card Game - I'm not into football/soccer etc, but this game was really fun. Plus I like the fantasy theme, and it's really interesting. Played it only once, SOLD!! Had to add it to my order.
Ninjato - after listening to 2 podcasts speak about this game, I watched all the video reviews. Yup...Goes into my shopping basket.
Dragon Rampage - the art on this game makes me shudder. robotrobot Looks a bit like a MS Word layout...urk. But had to get it bc of the rad reviews.
Catacombs - A dexterity Dungeon Crawl, yes please.
That's Life! - fun, light hearted game. Great as a gateway game, and for something less thinky.

I received Kingdom Builder, Zombie in My Pocket, Quarriors, and Ascension today. I found out the Troyes is going to be shipped to me tomorrow - I won this one in an auction.

Nope, I do not have a problem buying games shake

Only when you can snatch the pebbles from my hand, grasshopper, will I yield to you the secrets of game purchase control as handed down by the ancients!!!

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Belated welcome! Always good to see new hobbyists join us!

Ascension is actually for my daughter, Catey. I am planning a trip to see her at the end of the month, in between school sessions, so it probably will not get any play before then. The others I plan on breaking out soon though!

Troyes is a great game! And it plays well with 2-4 players. I'm sure you will enjoy it!

I am sure I will enjoy it too, although I suspect I will end up playing it alone. I really bought it because of the solo variant available here on the Geek.

Just placed an order at Boards & Bits. So now I just have to sit down and wait a week or two before they arrive.
I bought:
- Village. Good things was said abut this one.
- Maori. Yucata. Say no more.
- Famiglia. Yucata again.
- Dixit. Did not own this. A must have to play with friends.
- A Fistful of Penguins. Because penguins are sweet.
- 10 Days in Africa. Actually: 10 days in Beautiful Africa. The only game my partner is willing to play with me, so then I thought I needed another version.

I looked into the tea leaves and read that a new game would be entering my life soon...

A game that my daughter (almost 6) would enjoy...

Not sure what to get, though! I'm looking at:
Ghost Chase
Magic Labyrinth
Nacht der Magier
Through the Desert (OK. This would be for me. But she would LOVE the camels.)

Thoughts?

If you haven't already considered them, I'd also check out

Marrakech (great bits, good (overlooked) game for all ages)
Pyramid (asymmetrical -- ghost is trying to get people, people are trying to gather specific trinkets while evading the ghost)
Château Roquefort (I like it better than Magic Labyrinth)
Viva Topo! (push your luck)

I'm selfish when it comes to kids' games -- I want them to be fun for me too (beyond just the spending time together level of fun). These all passed that test. Nacht der Magier did as well, but it requires darkness which makes it less playable with younger kids.

Château Roquefort - looks like a fun game. But it is really hard to find. Do you know if they will be doing a reprint?

Last games I bought:
Buy Low Sell High - my Mom likes Stock Ticker but I don't so I thought maybe we could play this instead.
Lost Valley - I like civ games :-)

Looks like it's still in print in Germany (Burg Appenzell) and it's language independent (in fact, I bought it before there was an English edition so we actually have the German one). Amazon.de has it in stock. Their flat rate shipping is 14 euros (and they deduct VAT) for orders to the US (probably Canada as well, but I've never checked), so if you can put together an order of about 100 euros (e.g. for Xmas or by getting together with friends), the prices can be pretty good.

Actually timewellspent.org seems to have it in stock in the US and gamesurplus.com is currently backordered but seems to be importing it as well.

I really enjoy Magic Labyrinth. Frustrating at times, but a lot of fun.

The madness never stops! I just went out to Amazon.de (the German site) looking for Trajan because I just gotta have it now. Unfortunately, since it's not fulfilled by Amazon I can't have it ship to the US. You might think that was the end of my shopping for the evening but oh no, I went a little nuts picking up some family fun/kids games that are difficult to find in the US.

Château Roquefort - I've been purchasing more and more children's games of late to play with my great nieces and nephews. I love it (and so do they) when I can find a kids game that plays well with adults. Loopin' Louie was a hit at Christmas and Dancing Eggs was a hit on Easter so next up - Mother's Day looks like this new game.

These two have been on my list for quite some time but they are always outrageously priced when in the marketplace. I finally caved and bought them tonight. My quite large family is really liking dexterity games these days.

Edit: By the way, thanks RB and Sue for putting Chateau Roquefort in my head. :-)

Via two trades, I just received:

-- Freedom in the Galaxy, an old SPI classic that came out 33 years ago; I had a copy back in the day, but traded it away to my best friend before I left for college. Nice to have it back in the fold. Swapped for a copy of The Schlieffen Plan.

-- Clash of Monarchs and Monmouth, picked up for a copy of La Bataille d'Auerstaedt (third edition). I'm a little crazy for CDGs at present, and I'm curious about GMT's AmRev series, so this was good for both parties.

Now that spring training and special-projects related mayhem at work has wound down, I'm looking forward to rulebook-reading, and counting the days until the perfect counter-clipping device comes out next month.

Just got Poseidon's Kingdom (thanks to BGG user HauRuck!) and Lords of Waterdeep. Neither have seen play yet, as I'm in the middle of a move, but I cleared off the dining room table tonight, as I'm determined to get in a play of one or both this weekend.

Through the Desert is a *very* thinky abstract dressed up in eyecatching colors and nice pieces. If you like thinky abstracts, and/or your daughter wouldn't mind moving the pieces without really understanding why, and/or you're up for making a new game out of the pieces to play with her, it might fit the bill, but beware... the only person I can get to play this with me as written is my famously math geeky father, and since he's colorblind, I had to label all the pieces for him. Even my math geeky 30 something friends won't touch it. That said, I play it solo once in a while when I want a real brain burner. The riders that go on the camels are also teeny teeny tiny; I wouldn't worry about a six year old, (except that you'd probably have to put the riders on for her), but if you have younger ones around, something to be aware of.

I second Magic Labyrinth.

I'm totally living vicariously through you guys. I'm really enjoying reading about what you've been purchasing and what you've been playing...I was working full time as well as finishing off a PhD last year, then took 3 months off work this year (Feb - April) to write up the thesis. I'm dedicating my life to it at the moment, so my plays are right down since pretty much anytime I don't spend eating or sleeping is spent writing. All my gaming itches are being addressed by listening to podcasts while I'm on the bus to and from Uni, and perusing BGG a little each day.

Just thought I'd let you know that while I'm not contributing much, and certainly don't have much to say about game plays or recent purchases, I'm enjoying reading about yours!
