A new film, Battleships, is coming out, based on the board game of the same name. This got me thinking, what other board games could be made into films?

Maybe a family saga starring Nicole Kidman about the struggles of a poor subsistence farming family in Europe in the 17th century, with plot twists aplenty as food runs short and the new baby is put to work in the field only months after being born?

Any other (serious or not) ideas?

Re: Board games into films
well yeah, lots. like the umpteenth other threads on this subject.

I think Hungry Hungry Hippos as a campy B horror flick would be fun. Teen campers at some middle of nowhere lake, killer hippos attacking and eating....

Saw this suggested elsewhere, but love the idea: Arkham Horror

The heroes (students/professors at the University) find that the town of Arkham is not what it appears. They discover a nightmare cult dangerously close to releasing an Ancient One. Investigation, gun fights, perhaps an Inception-like travel to an Alternate World, followed by a final climactic battle.

Clue is an awesome movie.

And I think it should be noted, that board game movies and movies based on board games are two different things.

I like to think of clue as a true board game movie. I mean it would be like if you reenacted it with people. you had the mansion, with its passages, all the different characters, etc...

Battleship while perhaps being based on the game, doesn't really look like the game.

He's looking real sharp in his 1940's fedora. He's got nerves of steel, an iron will, and several other metal-themed attributes. His fur is water tight and he's always up for a fight.

He's a semi-aquatic egg-laying mammal of action. He's a furry little flat-foot who'll never flinch from a fray. He's got more than just mad skills, he's got a beaver tail and a bill.

The Resistance

It would be best to not theme the movie... just a generic Resistance movement in the future... actually, maybe just a gameshow on ESPN...

Tim Curry made Clue a hilarious movie.

Battleship looks like it is going to suck. But I think it is based on the new Battleship Galaxies games and not on the original.

Sometimes I feel like the last man on Earth who really gets a kick out of that movie.

And let's make one based on Axis and Allies! We can call it "you've seen this bloody war a billion damned times already."

We could call it "Roll Call" or something.

Also, could call Resistance gameshow, "Role Call"

There was a movie about a test to enter a company or something. I don't remember the name, but The Resistance movie should feel something like that.

Yes, but in the end, should the main character be a spy or a Resistance member?

No, because that would actually make some sort of marketing sense and perhaps possibly potentially only result in a film as bad as Starship Troopers. This, if I am not mistaken, will be based on the original and will be as bad as Ernest Joins the Navy (which, horridly, stars Adam Sandler as Ernest.)

As for board game movies I'd like to see... How about Boggle.

I liked Jumanji even though Jumanji wasn't a real board game when the movie came out.

It's hard to make board game movies sound good because many board games don't have a plot. I could see a Monopoly movie coming out, but it's just going to be someone buying up all these properties, landing in jail for maybe not paying taxes, and than being bankrupt selling some of these properties.

The Adventurers board game seems just like the Indiana Jones movie, so that reversed like Jumanji where the movie inspired a game even though Adventurers isn't called Indiana Jones.

Noob. Obviously it would not be revealed as to keep options open for a trilogy or a TV series...
