It's Monday. I'm posting from my phone, as my family is on the road back from NY. So, this will be pretty no frills this week.

Post up what you played over the weekend.

I got a single game of Ticket to Ride with my mom and wife, as we were quite busy with family stuffs.

Grabbed a game of Battlestar Galactica... ended up with no pilots vs. the CFB and a hostile Cylon Leader due to us being too successful early on (Illusion of Hope Agenda). Didn't end well for us.

Satuday I was at PAX East, and I got some gaming in

Bazaar - Learned this one a few weeks ago at Conncon, taught it at PAX. Really neat puzzly game with near infinite replayability. If you let it, it's a bit of a brain burner, and will trigger AP. I have to fight the urge to over analyze, though this is probably what it takes to be good at it.

Fealty - Learned this one a few weeks ago at Conncon, taught it at PAX. Another puzzly game, but in a different way. Tons of player interaction, plays quickly, great game

Conquest of Planet Earth: The Space Alien Game - Learned from the rules. Flying frog game where your objective is to terrorize the planet. We played the competitive version, which seemed like the less-desirable choice. Great production quality. For me, a so-so game, but I'm not keen on "random card flip determines what happens". If you like LNOE you'll probably like this.

Zpocalypse - taught by the designer. This game has some good ideas, but it's a bit fiddly, and feels like it needs some refinement. It's not my style of game, but I can see a lot of people enjoying it. If you like a game you can't win (after all, you can't win in the zombie apocalypse) then you may enjoy the ride

Sentinels of the Multiverse - learned from the rules - co-op card game. We played the first time with 2 players and were getting wrecked. Tried again with 2 characters each which seemed to balance things out. It's an OK game of picking the right card from your hand, and does have some interaction where you try to coordinate strategies. Lots of decks, probably a good value. If you like superheros, you should get it. If you like coops, you should have a look. if you aren't a big fan of either, it's a pass

The Pillars of the Earth: Builders Duel - theoretically the 2p version of the more popular WP game, but it's totally different. Weird mechanism involved where the first player claims any row on a 3x3 grid, and then the other player claims an intersecting row. Then the players "flip" tokens to see who wins it. The tokens are a resource, and there are a bunch of other ones you have to get, then convert to refined resources, then pay to use to build the castle. Decent 2p game.

Alien Frontiers - Taught this one in a 3p game. Always fun

Steam - Helped teach this. Never got my 6 train running and didn't do very well. I blame being tired and skipping dinner.

On Saturday, I played Tsuro (went out first), Cosmic Encounter (shared in a three-way tie), Strat-O-Matic Baseball (played as the Cubs and beat the Reds), and Sentinels of the Multiverse (we beat Baron Blade in the first game for most of us). On Sunday, I played Race for the Galaxy, which we had to call a little early and I tied for first.

Introduced a friend to Steam. Played three players with my daughter through turn 3, then she had to go to bed. She'd only completed two links, so there was plenty of space to expand. Ended up running 6 links pretty much steady for the last four turns and finished up over fifty.

Interesting part was, I made a mistake in turn 9, choosing City Growth when what I needed was Urbanize (forgot I'd already grown a city). Then my buddy made a mistake in turn 10, taking the wrong set of cubes (there was a blue city breaking up what he thought would be a 6 link). The result was I won, but we both ended up sub-optimal. Since I erred first, he could have caught up and blown me out. Lots of, "Oh man, I can't believe...!" on both sides. Great intro to a great game.

Also Mexican Train dice with my mom & dad & family. Nice to have everybody playing together, but very painful for the luck averse or aspiring designers.

Finally, finally got back to some gaming this weekend (it's been FAR too long).

Got in a full teaching game of Julius Caesar. It was B's very first block game and was a ton of fun to play (B's a very good strategic gamer and one of my two go-to wargaming partners). He played Pompey and I was Caesar. We went all the way to the fifth year and were tied so B won as he had control of Rome. Just a lot of fun.

We then went on to play the 'Against the Odds' magazine game (don't let this fool you, these are really good looking and playing games) Not War But Murder. I've been wanting to introduce B to 'Impulse' games for a while and thought this was a reasonable start to the mechanic. As the Confederates I was able to hold B's advance off until the final turn (not a surprise as I've played the game with my brother a few times so the advantage should go to me for these first few games but again, B's a quick study and a great gamer).

After that came out Napoleon's Triumph. Man I LOVE THIS GAME! We threw dice for the choice of army and I got my beloved French. We both learned this game together when it first came out and B's been my primary 2-player gaming opponent for this game since day-1. We've accumulated some two-dozen+ games together with win/loss being split fairly evenly between the two of us. My French got a Morale Victory and I'm rubbing it in for as long as I can.

Finally, we pulled out Butterfield's D-Day at Omaha Beach for a co-op play. I grabbed the 1st and B had the 29th. Long story short, I suffered a catastrophic loss on Turn 6 or 7 (I seriously can't remember; must be getting older). We almost set-up for a second go-around at The Bloody Beach but having a look at the time we decided to call it a night.

Just an awesome bit of wargaming (I've missed thee). We both agreed that we've got to make this a more regular occurrence and made plans for two weeks from now. Can't wait.

I was at PAX East as well and got to play the following:

Chupacabra: Survive the Night. Fun little dice rolling game. Has some great mechanics for stealing dice from players. While "Chupacabra Loco Mode" might be hard to get, it seems like a great mechanic to keep hope alive and get yourself back into the game. Easy to learn, easy to teach. Will likely look to pick this up once released.

Castellar(?) Game by SJGames. Fun little castle building game. I'd compare it to "Dots" where you try and control territory by creating boxes on a grid. The exception here is that you have no grid, and you're playing cards from your hand to build the grid and boxes.

Core Worlds I got in a few rounds of Core Worlds before my instructors decided they had better things to do than finish up the game. I had some fun. I liked the idea, would have been nice to finish the game and see how it all played out in the end. I get this and confused with Eminent Domain. I think this was a good introduction to the game. I'll have to give it another try sometime and maybe finish a full game.

MetaGame Basically a version of Apples to Apples designed specifically for Video Gamers. Some of the games can be a little niche, and if you haven't played them its hard to make an accurate comparison. Making sure you're playing with the right people is important.

Agricola I'd never played this before and neither had my opponent. So we missed a whole lot of rules. We understood the mechanics, but even after the game I received a message about some of the things we missed. I may have to give this another go.

Ascension Played a good round of Ascension. I'm a big fan of this and love getting a chance to play it.

Monkeys with Knives and Guns An interesting dice rolling game. Trying to steal bananas and kill monkeys. We ended up with a pretty close game in the end. I would say its similar to Chupacabra, but not quite as fun, or interesting, which is disappointing considering the theme.

Guillotine This was the first time i played this, which was again a fun little game. We had a few interaction rules issues that were not resolved by the included instructions, so we kind of had to make it up. All in all it was a nice little distraction while waiting for something else to start.

Lords of Waterdeep I was looking forward to playing this all weekend and finally got to play it at the end of the day Sunday, and i was not disappointed. The theme, the cards, the quests, the game play was all so tight and well done. Once our instructor ran us through the rules we were quickly placing agents, resolving quests and collecting Fighter, Mages, rogues, clerics and gold. While i could have done for a little less downtime between rounds. We were all new players and wanted to read every new card that came out on the table. I definitely cant wait to pickup a copy for myself.

Zombie Dice x a lot (beer was involved, as was grilling)

FFG's Lord of the Rings x 1. Just got this one because Sunday was rather boring and rainy. Had a ball! We lost horribly - and knew things were not going well when Helm's Deep fell!

Busy weekend at home with my wife:

Taught her The Castles of Burgundy and we played it 6 times.

We also played:
1 x Attika
4 x Balloon Cup
1 x Mansions of Madness
1 x Ticket to Ride: Europe

Then we learned, but didn't play fully, Prêt-à-Porter. Will play this one tonight.

AND THEN... We spent most of Easter Monday painting the miniatures for Mansions of Madness! She did the monster type things and I did the Maniacs and Zombies. Cultists and Witches tonight!

How lucky am I?!

Space Hulk: Death Angel – The Card Game - Played one successful game of this Solo. Just by the skin of my teeth too - an event card in the dying moments brought back a marine at the 11th hour (who died moments later) allowing me to complete the control panel activation with 2 marines barely standing and about 10 Genestealers surrounding them on all sides.

Sadly didn't get World of Warcraft: The Adventure Game to the table with my fiancé as originally intended but I still hold high hopes that will happen in the future
