How do you have your blog subscription preferences setup? Specifically all of these settings:

1. Yes, "Blog Posts" is set in the "Subscribe when I post to" section of my subscription preferences. That wouldn't matter because I also manually subscribe, and have confirmed that I am listed as having a subscription to these blog posts and forum threads that aren't working.

2. I'm not sure where that screen is, but if it helps, I currently have no blocks in place.

3. Both "Blog Posts" and Blog Post "Comments" are checked Yes in the "Include in subscriptions" column of subscription preferences.

The subscription preferences screen is here: Subscription Preferences (you can also get to it from your subscription list)

My Subscription Preferences screen has nothing that looks like that middle screenshot, with Block/Do Not Block columns.

Still happening. Here is the most recent thread I have seen it with:

Looking at Lords of Waterdeep

In this case, I subscribed to this post without posting a comment myself. Never got notified of the 3 (so far) comments by other people.

Also, I am still subscribed to http://www.boardgamegeek.com/forum/767792/geekdo/news but have not been notified of any of the last several threads, including the recent maintenance downtime.

Re: Some subscriptions have no effect
FWIW, I have similar issues. I'd say roughly a third of my subscriptions don't notify. It's been that way for quite some time, and I don't see any pattern. I haven't looked at it systematically (I get enough notifications as it is), so I can't be more specific; but I've made sure it's not a result of my settings or blocks.

Yet another example: Caylus Magna Carta: Instant Gratification Variant

It's my own blog, and when I posted this entry last night, I subscribed to it. This morning, there was a comment, and I'm still subscribed, but I was not notified.

I keep giving examples in the hope that a developer can dive into the code and/or database and discover the pattern that connects these seemingly-random cases. And also to continue to demonstrate that I'm not just making this up, and that the cause is not "pilot error".

Over in the Werewolf forum we think it might have something to do with interactions between the beta site and the regular site. One poster is using the beta, and the rest of us have noticed occasional things like his quote boxes getting garbled or our subscriptions repeatedly jumping back to his posts.

I think my problems started before I signed up for beta, but perhaps not. However, I only rarely go on the beta site, and in most if not all cases (including this one) I have not visited the beta site between subscribing to the item and failing to be notified.

But perhaps the problems show up when the other person is a beta user. That would certainly be nice to track down if true.

Either way, thanks for the idea.

Another case where I subscribed to a blog post and wasn't notified of a reply: AmeriTrash vs. EuroGame: Are they just names for genres, or fact?

I'm going to ask the user that posted the reply that I wasn't notified about, whether he is a beta tester or not.

He is not a beta tester, so I think we can rule out that theory.

I'm going to keep posting examples. It would be great to hear from a BGG admin whether this is a bug they find worthy of researching or not. It continues to be quite frustrating for me, and my guess is that it affects dozens, hundreds, or perhaps thousands of users who just haven't realized it yet because they haven't gone back to look at old threads they (thought they) had subscribed to.

New example: Book review: Masters of Doom

Also, in case I forgot to mention it earlier, new posts are highlighted with the bold blue outline when I go to the page. So the system clearly does know that they are new to me. It just doesn't add the item to the list of subscription notifications.

100 geekgold for OverText, and all I got was this stupid sentence.
We're aware of the problem, but have no real way to fix it now. I think that it is related to interactions of some sort with the beta site, but I'm not sure what the issue actually is. The subscription system is very hard to test and fix, doubly so when there is the extra complication of interaction with the beta site. While I've done my best to make subscriptions work on both beta and master, I think this may be an issue we won't really be able to resolve until the beta is finished, and we have only one site to work on.

Ok. Thanks for the response. I'm skeptical that it is related to the beta site, since there have been examples where I'm pretty sure no party has used the beta. But I understand not wanting to deal with 2 codebases at the same time. I'll keep posting examples here in case something helps, but I'll wait patiently for the new site and hope for a fix after that.
