I am seeing banner adverts for Hawkins Bazaar, but I was under the impresion they had gone bust. Have they in fact gone bust or not? Is it in fact safe to but from them?

From what I can remember, they called in the administrators in late Dec 2011, with the media reporting it variously in early Jan as either "calling in the administrators" or "going bankrupt" depending on the source. The Daily Telegraph certainly think that Hawkins Bazaar is a goner: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/consumert...

Depending on the nature of their agreement with the administrators, you may find that Hawkins Bazaar is still trading in a limited form, while things are agreed with their various creditors. If you can walk into a shop and buy it physically, you're probably ok - at least until something breaks and needs replacing. I'd be wary of buying anything from the website though.

ETA: Then again, the BBC says that there was some sort of management buy out, with at least some of the stores still trading: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-16697972

That says that the management and their backers took control of 8 of the 65 stores, plus all the stock, trading names and wholesale and online businesses.

Re: Hawkins Bazaar
All the shops have closed down, at least in my area.

The one in Chester closed and the premises remained empty for a few months. It reopened again a couple of weeks ago with the usual stock, although there's a lot of the second-rate stock (some would argue that all of it is) that's been heavily discounted.

I would take that as a no, don't buy online.

Oddly enough we had 3 stores here, 1 is closed for good, 1 is only closed outside of holiday periods (last seen open at Christmas, which was a reopen after having shut down just after the summer) and one open and trading as normal.
I probably wouldn't buy online from them but I have and will continue to buy in store.
