I am looking seriously at the following 3 games, and I was wondering if anybody could give me some help comparing and contrasting them:

Game of Thrones (2003):
Not really a worker placement game, and significantly longer then the others (is 180 minutes really a good estimate for the play time), but I like the theme, and I think it might have what I liked about Diplomacy without the aspects that are generally frustrating about that game. Game designers also seem top notch.

Glenn Drover's Empires: The Age of Discovery (2007):
Middle length, great reviews.

Lancaster (2011):
Seems like a great game and the 60 minute play time could be attractive since I don't have the most hard core gaming group.

Also looking at Rex: Final Days of an Empire and Tribune.

Any help would be great. As I said, I have a group that likes strategy games, but is not the most hardcore group ever, and I normally can get 4 people, although 5-6 could be hard.

Re: Militart/Worker Placement Game Help
From those games I have played only Game of Thrones (2011, second edition) and Rex: The Final Days of Empire.

These two share some common parts: both play best with 6 (I have played GoT with 4 and it was much worse than with 6) and both about alliances and treason between the players. They both are about keeping allies in check so that alliance persists to the point when it is convenient for you to break it. They seem a bit redundant in my collection, maybe because I dont often have chance to play with 6. And if I were to go with one of them I would choose GoT.

Re: Militart/Worker Placement Game Help
I've only played "A Game of Thrones" and "Age of Empires" from your list. I enjoyed them both quite a bit and own both. AGoT is much more cutthroat and is best played with at least four players, six is preferrable. There is no avoiding battle in AGoT.

AoE is a less brutal game, and it can be won without direct conflict, though the ability to wage war is present. It works fine with as few as three.

Both games are colorful and well produced.

If you play with people whose feelings are easily hurt, or take in-game betrayal too seriously, you should probably steer towards AoE. If you like games where stabs-in-the-back are prominently displayed, go for AGoT.

Re: Militart/Worker Placement Game Help
My group normally plays war games (Axis & Allies, History of the World, etc), although Catan and El Grande are also favorites.

I can normally round up 5 but 6 can sometimes be hard.

Anybody played Lancaster? I watched the dicetower review and it looked promising.
