Re: App for Descent dice?
Hey

There's already one in the Iphone app store (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/descent-dice-roller/id5435779...)

I created one for android last week (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.JohsDuvig....
I created it for myself and my gamer group, so I have only tested it on phones with larger displays.

Yes, check out the Mach Dice app. It is a 3D dice simulator, allows you to enter in the type of dice you want to use (d4,4d6,2d8, etc), create your own backgrounds, but it also allows you to create your own dice! The app I believe is $0.99 and then an internal purchase of $0.99 to create your own dice. I created Descent dice with it and will be creating D-Day Dice dice next. When I get back to my PC then I'll upload pics and file(s).

I kind a like it. would be great though to have a button that deletes your choice of dice dice (so that you won't hav to delete each die manually).

In the first edition of the app, you could just click the die to remove it, which was pretty cool. It just didnt work out, because you could'nt reroll the die. Thought about double tapping to reroll, one tap to delete/remove. Still trying to decide

Let me know if you get a better idea.

Atomgamer and I created WFRP dice for dicenomicon ... haven't used it in a awhile so not sure if it still works since dicenomicon has been updated.

I like working the script angle... but getting the images for the dice are PITA to me.

I'd collaborate if you wanted to PM me.

It works fine on my Samsung Galaxy S II.
Good job !

Just a question : the log memorizes the three last rolls.
Is there an option to vizualise more of them? (I am a spoiled - 48 y.o. - kid cool)

Just downloaded Mach Dice + the in-app Custom Dice. Using the dice images from Fantasy Flight website (clicking each die image on this page http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=3273 brings you to an image with all sides).

Had each die setup in a minute and it's great!

Well, they're all in the log, just not shown. Think I'll have to revise the solution I'll post a new one version tomorrow or the day after

Howdy! I'm the developer of Mach Dice (available on iTunes). I'm here because I noticed a spike in my web site's traffic. (It's easy to notice because my readership mostly consists of my mom.) Thanks for mentioning my app!

Mach Dice will indeed let you create your own custom dice. Here's a video on how to do it:

Enjoy!

Upload was finally approved. The "dice" at the top of the sheet are self-contained and can be easily copied elsewhere.

The examples below have a number of interconnected formulas. The Blue-Yellow (A7:J11) & Blue-Red (A13:J17) ranges each need to be copied as a block to preserve functionality.

The Solo tab was just something I left in from my variant to get random terrain & monsters.

boardgamegeek.com/filepage/81819

I have a more elaborate "dice matrix" that I developed after uploading that. It covers most combat combinations of up to 3 attack dice & 2 defense dice. There are some Act II lieutenants that have more dice than that, and heroes with items as well ... you would have to adjust the final result for the extras. It is a bit arcane, but if anyone is interested I could upload it and try to explain how it works.

Would it be possible to roll the attack dice and defense dice together?

well... yes and no

if you just want to select the defense dice as if they were extra dice in the "attack set" then yes, it would take about 20 seconds to change
however, that would completely brake the whole "the app remembers who selected which dice" thing

so what you really need is a way to select who rolls the defense dice for this attack roll
i can't think of a obvious way for the interface for this function, but i'll think about it a little more

i'm always open for suggestions of course

Sorry, finally got a chance to test with my old copy of Calc 2.4, and didn't have any obvious problems. Guess I should upgrade ...

http://www.openoffice.org

There is a short explanation on the files page in the comments down below. The common attack dice combinations (up to 3) are across the top, with defense dice (up to 2) down the left side. The range and surges are listed just below attack dice, since they aren't affected by defense. If you find the intersection of your attack combo column with the defense row, the number in that cell is the adjusted number of {hearts}. This number, or the range, can be modified by surges of course.

The dice below and to the right of the matrix are not tied in at all. They are the original, self-contained (one cell) dice I coded. They just use a simple Choose / Rand formula to display the different possible die results. You can use them to represent dice from additional skills, abilities, or items. You have to manually adjust the calculated numerical results. I could make a larger matrix, but this seemed like a manageable size.

The single cells can also be easily copied to another location if you are using Excel or Calc for other purposes, like the nice tracker sheet here on BGG, to provide simulated rolls in other contexts. At least these dice won't roll under the table or get eaten by the dog.
