See this post for an introduction to this project.

Nothing new really, just wanted to post some pictures that gives a comparison between the 5 powers.

First the cultists, the four 'base powers' are using the same miniatures as in the original game. But I have assemblied them differently and paintet them in macthing themes.

Now to the warriors, theese are the most cool miniatures. And that Rat Ogre is really large!

I also need some scoring tokens to keep track of the score, I think theese are more fun that the provided cardboard ones

And finally the greather deamons, sorry for the bad picture but it was really hard to get a good shot of all of them at once.

And this is where I store them all, sorry for the black bar but is is to early to show the remaining Old World miniatures.

And why not throw in the already posted pictures of all of the pieces

Well hope you liked this update, even if it was only old stuff...

See this post for an introduction to this project.

Phase 5 has been a funny one, The Horned Rat is very different from the other powers, also in terms of miniatures. I had to be creative with this one, so lets take a look at it...

The Greater Daemon was quite of a challenge, the 'real' Vermin Lord miniature is very small, only half the size of the other greater deamons. This really bugged me, so I decided to buy an Deamon Prince as well. Of course the last one did not look like a Vermin Lord at all, but it had the right size... After a bit of cutting, gluing, modelling and painting I ended up with just a single big Vermin Lord:

As you may notice, making rats fit a gray color scheme is a bit tricky. So they are not that gray but I think it is ok.

Next problem where Rat Ogres, they are quite large compared to the other warriors and usually warriors are also used as scoring markers. But in this case I decided that they simply where to big for the job. I had to do some modelling work on theese ones as well, the miniatures had very visible connection points especially around the arms.

Cultists... Man does The Horned Rat have many cultists. Well it took a while to paint them all but furtunatly they are still quite different. This makes the painting more fun (a hate painting many similar miniatures).
As you may notice, I changed one of the Clan Rats into a scoring marker. It breaks my pattern, but this power is just different in most ways...

I will not include a comparison between the five cultists, Clan Rats looks very different any way.

And at last, fear the swarming horde of The Horned Rat!

Next step is to paint all the miniatures used for 'The Old World', but since there is quite a high number of them, I expect to split them into two phases.

Again, taking all the pictures, cutting them and posting them takes most of an evening. So if you like it please reward me with a comment or a thump

And by the way: Happy New Year! laugh

See this post for an introduction to this project.

Phase 4 has taken even longer time than phase 3 to complete, but Tzeentch really has too many tricky miniatures to paint
I don't expect anybody to be surprised that the fourth power I paint is Tzeentch. It was quite natural to complete the four powers from the base game first.

As always we start by having a look at the Greater Daemon, the color scheme of Tzeentch is already blue (at least for the greater daemon) but I have pushed it a bit towards Turquoise. As the FFG miniatures aren't 'classic blue'.

Next is one of my biggest problems of all the miniatures, now on one hand the 'Horrors of Tzeentch' as FFG names them are actually 'Pink Horrors of Tzeentch', but on the other hand pink miniatures for the blue player will confuse people and look strange.
So after many considerations I decided to do the same as all others that have painted the FFG miniatures: Paint them blue!
(When you kill Pink Horror two Blue Horrors appears, so Blue Horrors do in fact exist).
I would wish that Tzeentch had more warriors because these where really fun to paint. But let’s have a look at how they turned out.

Opposed to Khorne, Tzeentch really has a lot of Cultists. As most of the Horrors were playing with fire, I wanted to make this the theme of the Cultists. I also wanted to make them a bit cooler than the previous Cultists, because when I play Tzeentch I almost only use the Cultists (it might get hard to not use the greater daemon when playing with this set though ).

Let’s have a look at the four types of Cultists for the base game. I hope that you can see what I have tried to achieve, Cultists that are all generic/similar as the FFG ones, but each with a different color scheme and feel to make them different.

And at last, behold the strange Tzeentch horde!

I can just as well admit that the next phase is going to be 'The Horned Rat', everything is assembled, green stuffed and primed. And I do think that I have a small surprise for you next time

I have also prepared all the miniatures for 'The Old World', this consists of Heroes, Nobles, Events, Skavens, Peasants and Warpstones. But I don't think you will see these guys painted in 2011

Again, taking all the pictures, cutting them and posting them takes most of an evening. So if you like it please reward me with a comment or a thump

See this post for an introduction to this project.

Phase 3 has taken a lot more time than the previos ones, I guess being back to work does not help . The third power I have selected to paint is Khorne, again this was a big change compared to painting Nurgle.

The picture quality does not match the previous phase, but I am short of sunlight to give a good lightning. Sorry about that

Yet again we start by having a look at the Greather Deamon, while this isn't my favorite miniature, I really started to like it during the paint job. Again the red color scheme of Khorne fits perfectly as the red player, so no change in the colors.

Now it is time for the warriors of Khorne, the Blodletters! As you might expect there is one to many warrior on a square base, as always this will be used as the Khorne scoring marker.

There is not many cultists that follows Khorne, but lets take a look at the ones that actually does.

This image shows the difference between the three current types of cultists.

And at last, behold the terror of the Khorne horde!

Next phase is ready, everything is assemblied, gren-stuffed and primed. But expect it to take at least as long as this one. But I WILL complete it!

Taking all the pictures, cutting them and posting them takes most of an evening. So if you like it, please reward me with a comment or a thump

See this post for an introduction to this project.

Phase 2 has completed quite fast, I guess a few more hours are added each day when you have vacation . The second power I have selected to paint is Nurgle, basically because it was something very different in style compared to Slaneesh. One of the things that makes this project really cool is that I only paint a 'few' miniatures before moving on to something completely different.

Lets once agian start by having a look at the Greater Deamon. I had no problems in remaining true to the original color sheme, as Nurgle is rather green. I have not included the one from the board game for size reference this time (I forgot cry).

Lets move on to the warriors of Nurgle, the Plaguebearers. You may once again notice that there are one Plaguebearer to many, but the one with the pole on the square base is not a Plaguebearer... It is the green scoring marker (see the pattern? ).

As last time we will finish with a look at the Cultists, hopefully you can now see what I am trying to attchieve. Even though all cultists are the same miniatures, they are assemblied and paintet differently to give each power a discint feel, while remaing somewhat generic.

This image shows the difference between the two types of cultists.

Fianlly lets just have all of it in one image (The greater deamon is standing in a bad angle, sorry about that...):

Next phase is approaching, the miniatures are assemblied but the greater deamon still lacks green stuff and priming. Don't expect next phase to be completed in a couple of weeks (vacation ends tomorrow), but I will return in time

If you like what you are seeing, please help my motivation and leave a comment/question or at least just a thump

See this post for an introduction to this project.

Phase 1 is already completed . The first power I created was Slaanesh basically because it was the one with the fewest miniatures and I just wanted to see if I was going to be committed after starting.

Lets start by having a look at the Greater Deamon (that is the coolest miniatures after all). I have tried to remain true to the original color sheme, but also really stress the purple color as this after all are the purple player of the game. I have included the one from the board game for size reference.

Lets move on to the warriors of Slaanesh, the Demonettes. You may notice that there are one Demonette to many, but the one with the flag on the square base is not a Demonette... It is the purple scoring marker .

Finally we will have a look at the cultist of Slaanesh, I decided to use the same miniatures for all cultists, but to theme them diffrently for each power. For Slaanesh it is all about whips, chains and people being blinded/silensed. I decided this to stay more in line with the FFG version where they all are generic (Horned Rat will be different though).

Fianlly lets just have all of it in one image:

That was it for this update, please let me know what you are thinking. Next phase is already in progress, the miniatures are assembled, green-stuffed and primed. More will follow when I am done with them...

Welcome to this blog, I will give a brief introduction to this blog that I was suggested to start in this thread.

As a former Warhammer 40,000 player and a HUGE fan of Chaos in the Old World and Chaos in the Old World: The Horned Rat Expansion, I have found myselv fighting to resist buying the 'real' miniatures to play with. However I have (several times) realized that they simply where to big for the board and abadonned the idea...yuk

But about a month ago I decided to do it anyway, and in the end create a new even bigger board for the miniatures. I don't know how it will be created yet but I expect to create it as Warhammer terrain/board and buying another version of the boardgame to get an additional set of dials to mount on it.

This project will cost me a lot of money and take a very long time to complete, but for me the process of creating it is more importaint than the result. I rarly play boardgames at my home, and this will be hard to transport, so I might not play with the finished result many times, but if I just play with it once, it will be worth it!
(I have a glas display where the miniatures will be displayed when not used, my Warhammer army used to be there).

If people find this project intresting, I will continue to post pictures as things gets completed. And who knows maybe one day of me playing the game . Please thumb and/or comment to let me know that you want updates...

The project will be spilt in several phases:

1. Slaanesh miniatures
2. Nurgle miniatures
3. Khorne miniatures
4. Tzeentch miniatures
5. The Horned Rat miniatures
6. Old World miniatures
7. Huge custom playing board

I will at least post on blog for each completed phases, and maybe sometimes in between.

The first phase is already completed, it will be posted shortly after the introduction.
