Games played @ Surya & Myriam
- Discworld: Ankh-Morpork
My 1st play (3 players) and this game is a tug of war. Don't plan much in advance because the board has changed significantly by the time it's your turn. I initially wanted to write it's chaotic but tug of war is a better expression to describe my feeling on the game. This is because Surya won the game by achieving his character's victory condition and Myriam and myself were close on our own victory condition. But in retrospect I didn't focus enough because of all the changes going on the board. The game gave me a good initial feeling and the gameplay is straightforward, turns are simple and fast.
I'm no Discworld expert thought to give comments on the actual theme.
The board is a gorgeous city map which kind of reminded me of the artworks done in the original PlaneScape AD&D setting (the artwork in those books was wonderful).
FrachtExpress is a older and not well known game, but I like to pull it out on occasions. I like the hand-management (cards have a different use whether your play it to build track, move you train, pick up and deliver cars...). It's quick, engaging and a pick up and deliver train game As always with these logistical style of games, Myriam crushed us.
I've only played Hermagor 2 or 3 times before, and never really did anything for me, but this time I really enjoyed it. Winning also helps in this but I was really in the game during the whole play. The heart of the game is of course the market phase and you really have to focus on your plan.
Yes, the colors chosen for this game are to cry for but during gameplay it doesn't distract so it's ok.
Langfinger got my attention because it's now available on [geekurl=http://www.yucata.de/en]Yucata[/geekurl]. It's a fast/filler worker placement game. It's quickly explained, played and accessible. Glad I played it, will play it when asked but won't actively request it (I feel kind of indifferent about this game).
