I'm basically useless at rules explanations. Partly because with over 100 games, I tend to think I know a game really well, then half way through explaining it realise it's been a few minus since I last played it and there are plenty of points I've forgotten, but mainly because my mind tends to wander all over the place when I'm thinking so the rules end up a little spectrumed.

This might be expected with a complicated game such as Khronos, but If Wishes Were Fishes!? I blame it on a stressful week. Honest.

Incidentally, if you thought Puerto Rico had politically incorrect undertones, then try playing WfF with someone who refers to the 'spread all buyers' wish as 'the apartheid card'. I might make a list of memorable quotes from this weekend.

Well, I wouldn't have the sou....oh.

At least it's cheap, but I can tell everyone's just itching to get back in the game room...

Not doing so well at this live-blogging, am I?

Hard to comment on the fly when you're deep in a game, but some bad bidding in Ra (I don't do any other kind) means I have a couple of minutes to say that the amount of games we have here is ridiculous. Doubt very much we'll play them all but I'm going to have a damn good go. I do have photos so will try to upload later.

The hubbub has also increased as the evening draws in and the beers go down: we've already had some inappropriate swearing from Ronan on his way to his only win of the weekend (peaked too soon?)

As for Ra, well my skill is still the same. Solid 5th and doing myself no favours in the Kniziathon.

One of the problems we sometimes have at LoB weeknights is the GP (Game Paralysis) we suffer when facing the choice of what to play next.

I'm sure we're all a little fussy to some extent, and with limited time in the evening there's little incentive to get stuck into a 90 minute+ game that you're not quite sure you'll like.

So it's nice to have the time to take the risk, which I just did with The Pillars of the Earth - a game I never thought I'd like but actually did.

I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere...

Literally.

After almost forgetting to include clothes for the weekend, I made it to Victoria in time, met up with a few other LoBsters and promptly scared off a number of other passengers from waiting outside the carriage as we spied an area with three empty tables. The scene was set.

In actual fact we only had time for a couple of games on the train - Zing! and Palastgeflüster, neither of which I won but the important thing is, nor did Ronan.

And so it begins. The Kniziathon is already underway and we lost no time in getting set up in the games room. Unpack? Pfffft. Time for Ninjato!

Well, it's finally here. Tomorrow I head off to the delights of Eastbourne on the southern coast of England to spend 3 days with my fellow LoBsters in some sort of gaming nirvana. Or perhaps just a sleep-deprived 36 hours of cardboard mayhem with , either works.

I've been looking forward to this for a while, especially as I missed the last two weekends and was insanely jealous of the photos. It comes at a good time for me, too, having had two interviews recently meaning I am in need of a break to take my mind off things. A job offer would cap it off

I'm hoping my enthusiasm is not misplaced and the weekend lives up to my expectations. I'm lucky to have a family that enjoys boardgames but we only get together a few times a year, so day-long gaming is a real treat. I'm also hoping to get a few plays of games I've had for a while but never got to the table, such as Darjeeling and The BoardGameGeek Game.

This blog is a bit of an experiment, so we'll see how it goes, but the idea was to try and live (as much as possible)-blog the weekend and offer thoughts and observations about the games, the gamers, and the general atmosphere of the event.

Subscribe if you want; I can't promise it will be worth it, but we shall see! Oh and a few things to watch out for:

sheepMartin's Kniziathon championship (who will win? Bets on now)
sheepMy Khronos evangelism (Lloyd has decided to trade his copy knowing he has no chance)
sheepRonan's wins (5 to anyone who guesses the correct number. My money's on 1)
sheepThe LoB on Sea Spring 2012 'Curtis' award for most AP-prone player of the weekend.
