This is the blog formally known as Docreason's Designer HQ (the rest TBD). It focuses the thoughts of the design process of Rich Hutnik and other things Rich, gaming related (pretty much), finds interesting. The change in name reflects a bit of a change in focus and branding.

My Classic Games Redefined YouTube channel, is pretty much now myself making a how to play video on one of my games made available once a week, due to other things going on. So, I figured I would post the How to play video here.

And this week is L-Gammon:

This is 2D movement Backgammon on half a checkerboard.

I may get back to some other game stuff, but the Universal Mutators have wound down, and I am working on another YouTube channel that is getting subscribers and traffic.

I did a video where I looked at both of these Universal Mutators. I did discuss them prior, but figured I would do a video on both of them:

For providing useful feedback to others, it doesn't provide much value at all.

Here is a video I did explaining why I say this:

In this video, I look at a Universal Mutator that is an alternative to normal discarding. It has shown up in Poker and Hearts.

Here is the video:

And here is the entry on it in the thread on Universal Mutators:

I am currently trying to work on yet another YouTube channel, so work on my Classic Games Redefined channel is less active, as is other game stuff. I do have a lot of challenges.

Anyhow, this video gives some details, if interested:

The nature of the new YouTube channel puts me right in the middle of gender politics, so I don't want to give any more details on this.

A prior attempt to do a channel like this new one failed, so I am also hesitant to go into details, as it feels like bad luck to me.

In this video, I look at the Duplicate Universal Mutator type. This is used in Bridge and has also been applied to Backgammon and Poker.

Here is a video I did on a recent interview with Jonathan Blow that videogames suck for storytelling. I agree.

Here is the video on it:

Please comment below, don't just disagree and walk off. Thanks.

My discussion of Deck Stacking on BGG led me to find this related Universal Mutator, in a variant to Magic. I am calling it "Hand Stacking".

Here is the video on it:

Rather than shuffle, why not have players stack the deck as they choose, to eliminate the randomness of a shuffle. That is the goal of the Universal Mutator: Deck Stacking. I also suggest that a variant of Magic can be played this want and show off my game Foreknowledge. My game Predestination also uses Deck Stacking.

Here is the video:

I am not Steve Harvey! (video)

I want to go on record that I am not Steve Harvey. After I started using the tagline in my videos (for my YouTube channel), I found out that apparently Steve Harvey managed to have "Don't hate the player, change the game" as a quote, the way I have been using it as a tagline for my videos. Well, I wanted to go on record to say I am not him, and that what I mean by the tagline is different than what Steve Harvey means.

Anyhow, here is the video explaining this:
